Thanks guys! I dont know if I have seen the silhoutte trailer before but I think I can make this one work. Show me a pic if you have one. I could always use some inspiration. I am thinking of making a bail type hitch (similar to a push-pull scraper) for the front of the trailer instead of the typical framed design. It will look kinda like a huge "D" ring on the front. I have a really wacky looking receiver hitch for the back of the van that I have been toying with. I think it will look nicely overstated when I get it all complete. I am still looking for some ideas on the overall trailer though. It seems too simple or plain to be something Dave would have made. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions of things that I should incorporate. Pics will help too if you have any. Thanks again for looking.

I dont think Dave ever designed or drew any pictures of trailers but I am trying to create one similar to what I think he might have done. I wanted to put all of my Deal models into one grouping but I thought a display case was a little too boring. So, I figured, why not have the Vanman pull the Trans Um and zzzzzz-28 on a trailer? Coming up with an idea for a trailer that would look like something Dave might have done hasn't been easy, and I still dont know if mine is wacky enough but here are a few progress pics. I tried to make it really rounded and swoopy, kinda like the cars it's pulling. Let me know what you guys think. The part on the back is going to be a fold up ramp that the cars drive up on. I plan to cover the top with diamond plate coverd in bmf. The frame color will be a bright metallic blue. I am also making another Vanman to match the trailer in the same blue.

359 Peterbilt (customised)
kyotey1693 replied to Cool Hand's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Looking good. I'm a big fan of custom trucks. I have been contemplating a Peterbuilt show rod/rat rod (but actually painted) style custom truck for a while now. Keep us posted with pics. -
Is there a place on here that is region specific or contains links to clubs or calendars that may be local to our area? If not maybe we could start a regional resource category and people could post what is local to them. I'm sure there are a few clubs or meets that go on around me but I haven't made it out from under my rock in a while and I have no idea who or where they are.

Would you pay more...
kyotey1693 replied to gluebomb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would. Though I dont agree with paying more for what we used to get, I understand why it's not there anymore. I think the licensing thing is bs but I get that they dropped it to prohibit passing anymore price increases on to us, the hobbyist. I have feared for a long time that they may go out of business altogether due to a lack of revenue. Just to play devils advocate for a second though. If you feel slighted (like I do) that we used to get sidewall detail and now we dont, yet we still pay just as much or more for kits.... Consider gasoline ( I know, sore subject huh?) We used to have 93 octane around here and it was only 20 cents more than regular per gallon. Now the highest we have is 91 and it is like 27 cents more per gallon. Do you stop buying gas because of it? -
Badass! I like the magnacharger too. Is it hand crafted or did you modify one that is currently out there?

73 Trans Am Brewster Green
kyotey1693 replied to kyotey1693's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well as promised here are a few pics of the paint. I know Dave intended for these things to look wacky but I dont think he had this in mind... I put the car in the oven to cure (with just the oven light on) and my wonderful gf came in to make breakfast this morning and didn't check the overn. I thought I placed enough road blocks in front of it but I still failed. Needless to say I will be painting another one soon. -

Just in case anyone is curious, Testors Brittish Racing Green seems to be pretty close. I will post some pics when I get some better light. -
Hey guys, I am going to build one of Dave Deals' Tirebirds and since it comes with green tinted windows I thought it would look good as a tribute to a 73. That was the only year for that color. Does anyone know of a close color to the Brewster green in rattle can form that I could use?

Thats amazing! Are you "freehanding" these on the mill or do you have some blueprints or templates?

AMT Caterpillar D8 rippers
kyotey1693 replied to kyotey1693's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well I did it! I was able to cast those pieces with some degree of success. The model now has 3 rippers. They aren't perfect but good enough for this build and my first attempt at molding resin. I doubt I will continue experimenting with resin molding. It's way too expensive for the products. It would have been cheaper to have bought 2 more D8's and then I would have all kinds of extra parts and 2 more models! Oh well, I learned something and had fun doing it. Here's a few pics. -

Thanks man I appreciate it. I wasn't sure where something like this was supposed to go. I'll put it over there and see what I get. -

Thats cool. Did you do the rear fenders yourself? -
Hi guys, I am building one of AMT's old D8's for my father. This will be part of a really long build diorama that I am still sourcing parts for. I have the D8 but am still trying to track down parts for the Chevy Bruin mechanics truck that I want to build to replicate his 1:1 truck. In the meantime, the D8 is just about done but I would like to add 2 additional rippers to it. The kit has the provisions for a tripple shank ripper but only 1 actual ripper comes in the kit.. Does anyone know of a source for a couple extra? I recently purchased a resin molding kit from HL but I have yet to open it and I am a little nervous about how well it would turn out especially on something I am building for my dad. I want it to look perfect and haven't had any practice with molding. Is there anyone out there that I could send the original ripper pieces to and have them cast a couple extras for me? Does anyone do that? If anyone has any pointers I would greatly appreciate it.
