  1. He did an amazing job with the body and paint, etc. If you build one just be sure to put the radiator behind the radiator support as it is in my follow-up pics.
  2. You are correct. I enlarged the pics so I could see them better, and there is no "H" on the stripe. A plastic license plate with "HERTZ" does not make it a Hertz car. I know about these: Hosted on Fotki
  3. This kit is a regular GT500. The one advertised is supposed to be a GT350H. I'm still skeptical.....but it's still an interesting subject for a replica model.
  4. Yeah....but you could change wheels really easily if you wanted a new look.
  5. I know this is a 1:1, but I'm intrigued by the possibilities for a model. However, I am skeptical of it's authenticity. I am old enough to remember the Hertz GT350 "renta-racers" of 1965-66, but not only do I not recall them being sold in 1968, I cannot recall ever seeing one in Lime Gold. Though I headed off to boot camp in 5/68 I was working in Sacramento for Standard Oil right up to that time and was realllllly into all the hot cars of the era. This one puzzles me, though: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustang-GT-350-Real-Shelby-GT350-Hertz-near-mint-surviver-60k-orignal-miles-/320918188789?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4ab836f2f5
  6. Now there's a thought. When I was about 13-14 or so a friend of mine inspred me to enter one of my cars into the Revell National contest. I won my class (regionals) with a highly detailed version of the STW Willys Drag machine. He entered in the custom class and won. Mine was detailed in a way most weren't back then (circa 1964), but his had a candy red paint on it that put mine to shame. It was deep and gorgeous. But a really good candy paint on a model is hard to do...as I later found out..because it has to be even all the way through and in every corner and cranny. Your Cordvette would be phenomenol (sp?) in a candy red. Just plain phenomenol (again, sp?)!
  7. What a great model that would make! Looks like the "Class of 45" chose it, too. OK...I doubt any markings from 1945 would survive for these years. Obviously some REALLLLLLY old-timers still around.
  8. Nahhhhh... Didja ever see the movie "Corvette Summer"? You don't wanna go there. Don't want to be too bold because the car is already bold enough. Ordinarily I'd love a burnt cinnamon metallic or orange pearl, but I'm not so sure on this car. You can combine classic Cord colors with Classic Corvette colors: Silver and Marlboro Maroon, maybe. Maybe black and silver or black and green?
  9. From the dearth of bottomless Death Valley: Hosted on Fotki To the tops of the Siera Nevada Mountains. The thin horizontal line you see along the mountainside is the snow tunnels the trains run through all year since the turn of the 20th century. They had to change the configuration of many of the big steam engines to cab forward because of the choking fumes in the miles-long tunnels. Hosted on Fotki A little closer. These re build of wood beams and heavty boards. In some places the trains go both directions inside the tunnels (sheds). Signal maintenance crews used to live in converted baggage cars along the route, and in the winter they were "sided" INSIDE the tunnels with the trains flying by them day and night. Hosted on Fotki
  10. Here's a world famous roadside attraction that was there for decades....until some asswipes cut it down. Unfathomable, but a sad, sick truth. The Shoe Tree, US 50, about 40 miles east of Fallon: Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki And, our contribution: Hosted on Fotki
  11. Cool planter trucks, Dave. Even women would like those...although maybe not in the yard. Ray; when your comment hit my email I was afraid you mean the outhouse. The old Middlegate P.E. station now has a bar, restaurant, and some questionable lodging. It's every bit as craggy and old school as it gets, but they have some GREAT food there. They start preparing prime rib in the late afternoon that is to die for. Then, you can head south to Gabbs and hit the bar and play cards at the local VFW hall. Talk about living in the past.
  12. Truckee, CA: Hosted on Fotki I met a retired couple at the Boulder City Car Show. They were driving this REAL, Cord L29 Roadster from IN to CA and back. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  13. One more of "Mater": Hosted on Fotki A little more Route 66: Hosted on Fotki The outhouse at the old Pony Express station at Middlegate, U.S. 50 & NV 361 junction, northern NV. Hosted on Fotki
  14. That's a load of snow. When I was 5 we lived in Klamath Falls (around1953). I am sure we saw snow for 9 months...at least it seemed like it. Going into Crater Lake all I could see was snow far above our car. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. All I remember of cars was they were old (40's and early 50's) and they were always snow-mud splattered. We had a '50 Chrysler Windsor sedan at the time.
  15. That's the best I've ever seen kit wipers done. Tutor us in that.
  16. LOL. "Reckless driving"? I guess they don't watch NASCAR do they?
  17. Guess who showed up at one of our local car shows: Hosted on Fotki And, some sleeping snowplows just waiting to be brought to life: Hosted on Fotki
  18. And, if you're ever around Area 51 you'll need to make friends with these dudes: Hosted on Fotki
  19. And for those like me who love the pic of the beautiful Mt. Shasta, here's a reminder of how those mountains were created and what they still do today: Hosted on Fotki
  20. Great pics! You just gave me incentive to take pics of all the old gas stations along the old US40 (replaced mostly by I80) running from Sacramento to Auburn through the small towns, then up to Lake Tahoe. In the 1950's and 60's some of those stations were still operating and my mother knew the owners as we often stopped for soda, gas, or overheating. I can't even count how many times over the years I have taken the old..."old, old" as they call it...highway down or up the mountain, slowed down, and looked at those old stations with the intention of stopping and looking around. I just never did....but next time I will for sure. Along Route 66: Hosted on Fotki In Tonopah, NV: Hosted on Fotki Inviting, but no gas: Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  21. I pulled out a set of wheels and tires that are pretty close in size to what this kit has. They are way too big to use on the 1/12 scale '65 Mustang. You could open up the wells on a plastic version, but on the diecast Mustangs it would be ridiculous...or at least I'd have to start over with the whole car. Not a bad thought for the next one, though.
  22. Wow. Are those some kind of aftermarket windshield wipers?
  23. I was just looking at all the new GT500's. Apparently, the 2010 model used 18" wheels, then went up to 19" for 2011 and 2012. Holy lead sled, though. The convertible weighs in at 4025 lbs. No wonder it needs 400-500+ hp to get it going. And that was down 50 lbs from 2009.
  24. Thanks. Are those in scale supposed to be 18"...19"...20"??
  25. I like the yellow and white stripes, but your link to Photobucket says it's deleted. It does sit higher than I thought it was going to....something that was commented on as you were building it. That must be common to the kit. Did you ever get a measurement of th ewheel/tire diameter?
