  1. i remember the clear & red bars for the working lights!
  2. smooth. gonna keep the body in primer or spunk it up some?
  3. that unit has definitely seen better days!
  4. anyone turn the AMT-Lindberg kit into an extended cab with success? i know someone makes it in resin-maybe even a full crew cab- but i'd like to give it a try myself. i assume after i cross cut the cab and second cab there will have to be a pie wedge inserted in the roof, by how would the back half's roof be raised to meet the front half? or do i stop analysing and start sawing...?
  5. any chance you could share the source of those headers? i'm looking forward to seeing this in final livery.
  6. what's "thx"?
  7. see! i just Knew there was chicken wire in there somewhere. hah; you guys think i'm a complete neophyte. thanks for the very thorough explanation. now where did i set my tack hammer...?
  8. okay: "Where could someone purchase a #87 drill bit?" that's all; this is becoming obsessive. lemme see, needle, match, pliers. okay, here goes...... Ouch!
  9. .010 vs .099 isn't one of these numbers 9 times greater than the other...??? i guess this is why i was a carpenter rather than a machinist!
  10. oh Lordy; now i have to go out an' buy a lathe, too???? i should have stuck with military models...... Carl, thanks for the good technical supplement; i printed it for reference. j
  11. oh, Mike...... please...?
  12. the Ed Roth trilogy is certainly a fitting tribute
  13. i'll give it a try. i'm a "ribs guy"
  14. thank you; i'll give them a shot. j
  15. Mr Kotter...? John Sebastian
  16. only recently was i made aware that most pre '36 cars had a "soft roof" and not solid tin. i guess i never really wondered why models had the welting molded into the roof but always did think that that section looked quite good painted flat black. (ratter in training? ed.) anyway, is there a website which would show the correct wood framing and composition of the soft roof? i have to believe chicken wire and horsehair batting plays a part in all this.... thanks!
  17. admittedly i am not using a journeyman's quality dial caliper [general fiberglass - $22 at the big box stores]. the wire i use is by Detail Associates [our friend in the model railroad section]. the wire was marked .010. i used the dial caliper as a "go - no go" guage and both the bit i used and wire made a snug fit. the best i could guess [the dial is divided in .010 increments] is an approximation of .0125 so maybe your .0135 measurement is more accurate than mine eyes can extrapolate. could the loose fit [of the wire in the hole - material = styrene] be attributed to radial thrust while drilling? i am using a pin vise. i don't understand where the #39 drill bit came from...? but my original question was: Where could I get drill bits smaller than #80?. it's okay; sometimes "I don't know" IS the correct answer!
  18. Holy........err.........Moley!
  19. well, Bill........ sort of...... i put it together with no paint and a couple of decals and then cut up a transistor radio earphone and stuck it in the cargo bay of the station wagon and had "music" in my ride. i also nailed two pieces of wood together and this formed the back & floor of my showroom diorama. i think i filled up the trailer with the welding tanks from AMTs '53 Ford pick up and cinderblocks, toolboxes, and gas cans from wherever and called it complete. but who knows how far i would have taken it given a little encouragement? why, i may have even raided the sewing basket for some thread and wired the engine!
  20. 2 points!
  21. good points all. when i was just about 10 or 11 i had the then new AMT Chevy Nova wagon kit [with the little u-haul trailer]. i shared my great plans for this kit with someone [who will respectfully remain nameless]. enthusiastically i detailed how i would cut open the doors and tailgate and make them work, add upholstery, et cetera, et cetera. i concluded with "won't it be a cool model?" their response was "what does it matter, you'll never finish it anyway." so i guess the message is: be cautious in the advice you share. it can be either very beneficial or very detrimental....
  22. is there a source of drill bits smaller than #80? if a 1/25th scale inch is 40 thousanths (.040), then a quarter inch is 10 thousanths (.010). a #80 drill measures about 12.5 thousanths (.0125) if i'm reading the dial caliper correctly. when i use the drill for .010 brass wire the hole yields a reall sloppy fit. help appreciated. j
  23. AMT '41 plymouth & the '51-'53 chevies. also, Mark Gustavson has a resin & aluminum 6 advertised on his website but inquiries regarding its availabilty have gone unanswered....
  24. are those louvers cut through? now please tell how you did that. nice lookin' ride.
