Question on Revell 68 Mustang GT kit..85-4215
roym replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Many thanks all. I appreciate it. Now to see if he can get it! Cheers, Roy p.s. just saw freakshow12's post, what's so bad with it? As an alternative, will the hood from the Revell kit fit the AMT '67 Mustang? (I have that and quite like it as a model). -
Question on Revell 68 Mustang GT kit..85-4215
roym replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, shipping is a killer though. The LHS can get the 2n1 boxing but will have to order it for me. He can't seem to get the Bullitt boxing though. I don't want him to order it if I can't make the movie car from that boxing though. Looking on ebay I might be better off with the Revell Diecast kit. Cheers, Roy -
Hi all, quick question on the Revell 68 Mustang GT 2n1 kit. I know it has the bits to make a Cobra Jet but does it also have the bits (i.e. wheels and grille, not sure what else..) to make the Bullitt car? http://www.revell.com/model-kits/cars/85-4215.html#.UqbkNSee-0Y My LHS can get me this kit (with some effort) but the Bullitt boxing seems impossible. I want to build the Bullitt car as a gift and can do up the licence plates no bother, but the wheels will be a problem. Cheers, Roy

70 Dodge Challenger, AMT or Revell?
roym replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Cheers lads, so either Challenger kit will do then. -
simply, which is the better kit/easier build? Also, how is the Revell 68 Charger? Looking at Bullitt car down the road. And is there any way to make a 71-73 Mustang besides the Lindberg kit? Cheers, Roy

Confused K123 builder..Advice needed :-)

I agree Johnny, I'm really enjoying this build and wish they'd re-release the KW Conventional and Peterbilt 359 Conventional kits. -

I've also made a start on the trailer, this is so much more straightforward, with a lot of model showing after little hours on the bench. I tried a few ideas on the wooden plank floor, mostly without success; I eventually went with some Humbrol dark sand/brown and rubbed over the raised wood grain with a HB pencil at an angle, just like we did in school with coins under paper.... Not the most realistic, but good returns for 4 minutes work. (Don't know why it looks pink in the photos!) -

Hi all, Here's a few pics of where I'm at... First the sealed bag of tyres. Count 'em, nine there; Chassis so far; note no holes in the bump stops on top of the springs. See the oversized axles! Dodgy radiator positioning; Here's another look at the rear, I'm not sure about the positioning of the track rods (?) but it doesn't affect the axle positioning. and the front engine mount. This is currently only attached on the right side as you look at it, giving me room to play on the left as you look. -

Dave, thanks a million. Those pics do clear up a lot. Great stuff, cheers. I can't see any holes on top of the springs, but the ones on the frame are there ok. Looks like the spring holes are flashed over. Looks like I have the steering box on right after all. The only other thing I can see is that where I have the rad straight it is almost touching the pins for the cab tilt hinges. So it needs to go further back but I'll have to finish the engine first and fit that, so the fan doesn't foul the rad. Great fun all the same. and again, thanks for posting up the pics, I'll try to get mine up tomorrow. Cheers, Roy -
Hi all, Looking for some more help from those who know. I don't wish to hijack any more threads by others, so I've started my own here. Will take some photos today and post them up later. I've been looking at the pics in the build threads by Camaro73 and dee, and also by looking at photos on timstrucks.com. I think I managed to get the rear axle brackets (and therefore axles) in correctly, but I still need help on the following; My kit was missing one tyre, so I robbed the spare one from my tanker trailer kit. Do AMT have a parts replacement service? Do the air tanks in step 7 attach to the bottom frame rail and hang from there, the underside of the top frame rail and hang from that, or attach to the inside of the frame on the vertical surface? Where exactly do the front shocks attach to the front springs? Does the cab tilt cylinder actually attach to the cab? I can't seem to figure out exactly where the radiator is to make contact with the frame, and in trying to dryfit I had to separate the forward engine mount from the frame at one side in order to get the rad in. I now think the engine bearer may not be aligned correctly. there are two raised lines on the frame that look like locations for the rear of the rad, but they are not square with each other. The rear metal axles are about 15mm too long, or are they supposed to push through the brake drums into the inside of the hubs? Are the rear wheels just supposed to click onto the hubs or be glued wheel to wheel to brake drum? (I can't seem to get the wheel faces to make contact without squashing the tyres). Is there meant to be a second fuel tank mount brace? I can't find one. The steering box can attach at multiple various angles, with no idea which is correct. I haven't got the cab together yet, so i haven't been able to dryfit that yet. I sure mine is attached wrong though. Despite all the above, I am actually enjoying the build, believe it or not. It's a total change of pace for me and has me thinking of a diner/gas station/car park diorama for the future. (I need somewhere to display all those Mustang kits). This is the first truck kit I've built since my teens, and only my third ever. I've also got the fruehauf box van trailer on the go for behind the KW. I'm going to go for an owner/operator look, to maximise the chrome bling effect on the truck. I'll have to paint the fuel tanks though, as the seam is too noticeable, but I have a bottle of Alclad chrome and polished aluminium for that. Frame is going to be satin black, still undecided on the cab colour though. Any suggestions? Sorry about all the questions, but these are things I just can't figure out for myself. Pics to follow tomorrow. Cheers, Roy.

Hiya, fabulous model, real sharp build. Hope mine turns out half as good. can i ask how you got the angle of the axle brackets sorted? I'm short about a half dozen hands trying to mock up the engine/transmission/drive shaft/axle/drive/axle... Grrr...

Kenworth K-123 (WIP)
roym replied to camaro73's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi Camaro73, I started on my one of these last night and I'm up to the point of your 2nd and 3rd pics. I'd forgotten how lousy the AMT instructions can be on placement points- had great fun trying to figure out the location of the rear crossmember (no 5 in step 3). Can you tell me how you worked out the angle for the axle brackets (14 on step 3)? It says to angle them rearwards but it doesn't say how much. I've the rear axle/diffs glued and drying, so that I can try dryfitting later, but it appears that the position on these is dependent on the length of the propshaft, and therefore the position of the engine/transmission. However, the engine/tranny has to go in AFTER the rear axles. Confused.com...... -
Hi all, about 2-3 weeks ago I found a site with fab pics of mostly 1/25 model trucks/trailers taken outside with natural backgrounds and were very realistic looking. Thought I had bookmarked it but can't find it now. I'm not sure did I follow a link from here or the model section of Hank's truck forum, or even somewhere else? I've spent hours going over the possible leads from here, Hanks, and am now cross eyed from going through the (vast- 4 people use the net on this PC) browsing history to no avail. I thought it was Tim Ahlborn's site when I found that, but it isn't. The Pics I was looking for were almost all full rigs, taken at a longer distance that Tims, with various scratchbuilt roads (I recall one may have been from a rubber conveyor belt). If anyone has a clue what I'm on about (I could quite possibly have lost all of my senses....) I'd appreciate it. Also, does anyone know of a build-up thread for the AMT chrome tanker trailer? Search isn't giving me anything. Cheers, (a possibly confused) Roy

Thanks lads, I've located the Monogram F-250, the Dodge Stepside and the AMT iHobby Bronco at fairly reasonable prices online and on ebay. They all seem to be available ok too, after all that. Just goes to show how you need the correct search term! I'll wait for the Moebius Ranger as it will most likely be a good deal cheaper and more available than the other collector-special kits mentioned, even though I prefer the front end look of the later 70s/80s pickups. EdselDan, let me know if the bigfoot kit has all the parts for the standard truck, I might go that way at some point! Once again, many thanks to all. Cheers, Roy

Great stuff, thanks all. Will see how I get on with the first KW and trailer before I go on, but I like the look of the new Moebuis/RoG Lonestar. Quite fancy having a conventional of some sort pulling the chrome tanker and another with the flatbed. Those bud decals call for a Pete cabover and another Frehauf van trailer. Suddenly the wallet is sweating again! Cheers, Roy

Hi again and thanks to all for the very helpful and useful replies. Dodge has been located on the auction site using "lil red" as a search term. many thanks to farmer1 for the news about the upcoming Moebius release, that one will do nicely, and should be cheaper than the one on ebay so I'll wait. Any idea when it's due? The one michealbaskett posted the pic of is the other style I was asking about. That looks like the Super Stones release that was out years back. Found a pic of all the ones I was asking about; Have also discovered that "Ford Ranger" would have been the most useful search term! Ignore the Courier and Blazer in the pic above, it's the others I'm interested in. Any Bronco from that era would do, which would be the least fussiest kit to build? I did the Revell one years ago as a kid, can't believe it costs so much now? EEEKKK!!! I'm not fussed about brand or particular year, probably the most important thing is half decent fit, easy assembly and preferably clear headlight lenses rather than chrome plated ones. So which is recommended, AMT 79, AMT 81, MPC or Monogram? I remember that Revell one going together very well at the time, but it's outside budget now. Lastly, and I promise this is the last question, I've discovered a Monogram F-250 kit cheapish online, is it any good? Thanks again all, been a great help.

Thanks for that. The courier is smaller than I was looking for. Typical, I ask on here and then found one on ebay via google (even tho my own ebay search didn't pick it up). http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-1-25-Scale-Star-Truck-Ford-F-350-Pickup-truck-COMPLETErare-vintage-model-kit-/121027176824 Then I saw the price!!!!!!! Is it that rare? Thanks for the name of the Dodge, found it! AMT and MPC the same one? I've used Ford Pickup, F-100, F-150, F250 and F350 as search terms, but I can't find that body style or the later Super stones 4x4 that has a Bronco style grille. Is it called something else? Which is the best kit of the 97 F-150? Sorry about all the questions.

Hi all, Long long ago I built a Matchbox?AMT boxed Kenworth Cabover "Papa truck" transporter and an AMT/ERTL Mack R conventional. I managed to get both together without much fuss and even less paint, but I was 14 and happy (apart from the AMT decals disintegrating when placed within 10 feet of water). It's great to see the Round 2 re-releases in the LMS and I have the Fruehauf beaded van trailer and the K-123 cabover aside for collection at my next visit. Any tips or hints on what I should look out for on the build of either? I'd love if the old Budweiser decals were still available... I'd also like to add a conventional or 2 to the scale truck stop in the future, and I've heard a few horror stories on some of the old AMT kits. I'd do the Mack again, but 1; it's not available and 2; it doesn't come with a sleeper cab. Would you recommend a Kenworth or Peterbilt Conventional? I'm looking for the least fussiest build with decent fit if possible. The LMS has the White Road Boss in stock as well, any good? Lastly, what are your opinions of the Revell Peterbilt and Kenworth Conventional kits? I see them on sale for a decent price including shipping. Thanks, Roy

Hi all, I'm looking to get hold of a 1/25 Ford Pickup ideally the one that was issued in these parts back in the 80's under the dual AMT/Matchbox label. Back then it was listed as the "Star Truck" ford pickup ref PK4605 or T322. Another version was "Super Stones" Ford 4x4 ref 2707. Can anyone give me the correct name for this model and if it is available? I don't need that particular boxing, but would like that type of truck. I've tried searching but all I find are the 50's style F-100 and the 90's F-150. This latter seems to be available in a Revell, AMT and Lindberg box, is it the same tooling and are any good as a kit? Alternatively, years ago I built an MPC kit of a Dodge stepside, I think it was labelled as a Dodge Warlock. Is this tooling (or something similar) still kicking about? Lastly, I'm also looking for an AMT Ford Bronco from the same era (late 70's/80s). Apart from a collectors priced Revell kit from the 80s on ebay I'm stumped. Is the MPC and AMT tooling the same? Cheers in advance for any help. Roy

Hello, newbie from Ireland

Thanks again all, Having now got the convertible snap kits in my hands, I note they are kerbside (no engine detail). That sorts out the different engine issue. Now just need to slice the grill surrounds of a new GT500 and modify the lower bumper to something resembling the V6 version. -
Hi lads, I thought I probably had the wrong chassis, and yes it looks spliced. This is the kit in question; http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/amt-8/amt-1969-ford-musta-1/ I suspect I have the chassis from this; http://public.fotki.com/TOYOTA2000GT/meine-baustzemy-kits/amt-73-ford-mustang-1-25.html Anyway, it's AMT, not MPC. Or was it an MPC in a past life? The kit was bought intact in a hobby shop in West Virginia nearly 7 years ago, so returning it is not an option. I'm not too worried about it as I've just got a Revell (Monogram) Boss 429 which fills in that body shape in my collection of first generation Mustang kits. (Even though that kit has problems of it's own, are those rear lights correct?) All I need then is the 73 shape kit above to finish the collection, but I gather that's not right either. Plowboy, I'll gladly take the offer of the correct chassis if you can accept paypal for payment of shipping (I'm in Ireland) but looking at the size of the wheels in comparison to the body I'm wondering if it's worth the bother. Anyway, thanks again all.

AMT 69 Mustang Mach 1. Ok, I know this kit is underscale, but do I have the right chassis for this kit? Sorry about the crappy pics, but I think you can see what I mean. Floor/chassis, showing wheels (apparently) correctly centered. Rear wheel as near as centre as I can get, note position of front wheel; Front wheel sorta centered, can't fit rear tyre, but you can see the position of the hub. This last shows the floor pan in what I reckon is the correct position, as you can see both wheels are out of place. I haven't found any fixes online, any ideas? Cheers, Roy

Hi Jim, yes that thought occurred to me. However, the bumper/wheels is a bigger issue (I can glue the hood on!)
