Saw this in the LHS on sale for a song. Didn't pick it up as the pictures on the box weren't all that impressive. Sorry I didn't now. This looks fab and i figure it would make a nicer shelf model than the AMT kit. Would I be right?

question on 76/77-80 Firebird/Trans Am kits
roym replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Got the Revell ex Monogram 78 3in1 kit at the LMS for a steal; €10. Normally 1/24/25 cars are in the €25 range. He seems to have found a stash of them, picked up a 53 Corvette and Ford Expedition as well for the same price. -
Confused K123 builder..Advice needed :-)

Thanks folks. compliments mean a lot when they are coming from the people on here! -
Maybe people really like it? I know I voted for that but a while ago. I didn't realise there were 2 threads about this. For anyone interested I've put up the following; 2015 Mustang (Not as many votes as I was expecting...) http://ideas.revell.de/ideas/item/2270/ Mustang V6 Convertible (full kit). The V6 front end just looks so much better to me than the GT (and more Mustangish!) http://ideas.revell.de/ideas/item/2527/ Ford Cortina (Taunus) Mk4. As ubiquitus over here in the 80s as a pickup is in the US. http://ideas.revell.de/ideas/item/2126/ SEAT Leon mk2 and Mk3. (Selfish ones as they are my cars!) http://ideas.revell.de/ideas/item/2167/ http://ideas.revell.de/ideas/item/2169/ I've also proposed some aircraft re-issues and a proposal for them to retool their old-but-still-good 1/720 USS Enterprise CVN-65 kit from it's current 1965 era fit to the final 2012-13 fit, so I can model her at her decommisioning. All votes appreciated! Cheers, Roy

When bad things happen to good cars
roym replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One thing I can't help thinking is how crumpled they all are. i.e. I'm glad I wasn't in any of them when that happened. I always thought US cars of that era were built like tanks (relative to similar vintage Euroboxes and even more so Japanese cars of the same era). While the white Charger does look like it was hit by a freight train I would love to know what actually happened. If that's from a hit by another car I'm not sure I like Chargers anymore! Even more so for the storm damaged cars. Wow. were they made of paper gauge steel or soda can aluminium? Back in the 70's here, Fords, all German brands and some UK brand cars were made of a heavier gauge steel in comparision to the paper used by the Japanese cars and the even thinner gauge used by the likes of Fiat and Lancia. This may have something to do with how fast the latter 3 dissolved into rust. To be fair, the Japanese marques seriously raised the bar on reliability, but as the cars usually rusted out faster than anything else that became a moot point... Except when trying to start a Ford Cortina/Hillman Hunter on a cold damp morning.... -
Anyone got one yet? Interested to see how it looks.

Hi all. I've built the AMT 78 Trans Am kit; happy with how it looks but am aware of its shortcomings. I also have a Revell 71? T/a in the stash and it looks nice in the box. In time I'd like to do a 79/80 and revisit a 77/78. Can anyone comment on the preferred kits (MPC/Revell/Monogram/Testors/whoever) or point me to an inbox/review feature? Body Shape & detail is more important than fit or engine/chassis detail. Cheers in advance Roy

Resin hood conversion for AMT 67 Mustang GT
roym replied to roym's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for that, just also realised I need the side marker lights, they are on my 68 GT500 but not on the 67 GT. didn't notice the quarter panels were different. Might as well hold out for the Revell, even if the headlights look to large on the box pics I see. Cheers, Roy -

question on US licence plates.
roym replied to roym's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow. Thanks to everyone who has replied in this, I never knew it was that complex. I did think about putting them all on modern style plates, as in 1/25 the corner sticker is small enough to be barely legible. But, if in theory, a 67 mustang from CA could still be wearing a yellow on black plate, and a 77 Trans Am from GA red on white (even though BAN ONE has a 76 sticker in the corner; can't figure that one out) I'll go with that, at least for those two.... Greg, I hope it's not rude to ask, but would it be appropriate for me to copy and print some of those plate pics you posted? Some are quite attractive! For the record, I spent a few months living and working in West Virginia, back in 2005, and have had a couple of fabulous family vacations (holidays to us!) in Orlando, got to see a nice bit of Florida in 2011 & 2012. Noted that FL and WV only require rear plates. One more question, when both plates are required, does the year/month need to be displayed front or rear, or does it not matter? Tip for printing plates; copy image to computer, open for editing, crop to border of plate, paste to a word doc, resize to 11mm; will print to perfect size for 1/25. I've done this for magazines too! Scan and resize image to 8mm wide for 1/25, 16mm wide for 1/12. Cheers and thanks all! Roy -
Hi all, forgive the ignorance of a non US national! Say I have a model of a 1964 Mustang, and the kit supplies a Michigan licence plate decal with a small 64 in the corner. Does this mean the car's registration was recorded in 64, or is it displaying the current up to date reg? Put another way, if I want to display the 64 model in a dio with a 78 Trans AM, an 86 pickup and a 2010 Charger, as if they were all parked together, do I need to change the older plates to something more modern style, or just the year in the corner, or nothing at all? Our number plate system displays the car's year of first registration, area of first registration, and individual number based on sequence of reg. This stays the same, with the car until the car is scrapped. So 10-C-1234 equals 10 for 2010, C for Cork, and it's the one thousanth, two hundred and thirty-fourth vehicle registered in Cork in 2010. Cheers, Roy

Good ideas all, and I've used them all. My favourite at the moment is using a sheet of aeroboard (not sure if it's called the same in the US) i.e. expanded polystyrene foam, insulation material; 10-20mm thick, cut to fit whatever box you are using. Kit box for one car model, shoe box for two, larger plastic box for more etc and models are secured in place with toothpicks/cocktail sticks pushed into the foam around the model. Pretty safe unless the boxes are turned upside down.

Hi all, I've found a resin 68 style hood for the AMT 1/25 67 Mustang GT on ebay. Just wondering from those who know, can I use this to make an accurate replica of the 68 Bullitt mustang? I have a spare 67 amt kit, and something resembling torque thrust wheels from the 68 GT500 kit. Is there anything else I need? (got the licence plate decals...) Would save me buying the Revell version. Cheers, Roy

Hi Kilrathy, Thanks for that. However, I'm in Ireland! Shipping is the same as the kit! Found the Revell glue Pete 359 in the LHS today, 60 euro... ouch! Came home with the AMT/ERTL International 4300 Eagle for 30 Euro.. Not sure I made the right decision though. We have a model club meet there next Saturday so I may take it back and change it for the glue pete or KW (they have both). Although for 60 notes I might as well plump for the Prostar kit. That looks like it's worth 60.

Hi folks, many thanks for the nice comments, it means a lot to me when it's coming from you guys, after seeing all the fab work on here. I see a lot of recommendations for the Revell snap kit for a Peterbilt 359. Plenty on ebay, but when I factor in the cost of shipping it puts it above the price bracket of the AMT rigs in the local model shop. I also don't think I can get replacement tyres for the rear, I have a feeling the kit ones will bug me after a while. II don't see that AMT have re-released their Pete conventional yet, but Revell Germany has a 359 kit out, and while it is priced higher than the AMT kits is of the style I want. It also has a bigger sleeper cab, which is also more in the line of what I'm looking for. Can anyone advise on the good/bad of this kit? It's this one; http://www.revell.de/index.php?id=210&KGKANR=0&KGKOGP=10&KGSCHL=63&L=1&page=1&sort=0&nc=&searchactive=&q=&SWO=&ARMAS4=&PHPSESSID=2cbce3840a5c9023e5b5afb1a0ae0148&KZSLPG=&offset=5&cmd=show&ARARTN=07412&sp=1 or here; http://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=178036 Basically I need to know if it's a dog or a decent kit. The LHS has the AMT International 4300 Eagle, the White Road Boss and the Chevy Titan. The first two are conventionals that may be an option depending on your opinions of them. let me know!!! (I'm hoping that AMT will in time re-release their full truck back catalogue. Would love a Mack R again and a Cruiseliner, as well as the Kenworth conventional "Movin'on", Pete 359 and the Papa Truck.)

Yes those R4 vans were everywhere in this country during the 70's/80's, as the Post and phone utility companies used them, along with the Electric to a lesser degree. Then they were sold on to the private market so still were everywhere. The green as pictured was the later scheme (An Post) but the iconic colour here was a dirty orange with "p&t" lettering. As for Cortinas, 1977-1980 Mk4 for me please, both estate and saloon, L, GL, Ghia and S versions wanted! (C'mon Airfix or Revell, you know it makes sense...)

Well, apart from an AMT/Matchbox Papa Truck and an ERTL Mack R as a kid, first time rig! Something sorta resembling an in-progress thread here; http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70642#entry1091015 Anyway, while I know there are plenty of mistakes I am really happy with how it turned out. Most of all I enjoyed the challenge, and I love the finished result. However, I'm open to constructive critisim (I'm normally a 1/72 aircraft, 1/700 ship and 1/25 car guy) and would like some pointers. I know that the exhaust stacks look out of line in some of the pics, as are one of the tanks and the cab looks slightly tilted sometimes, especially if I don't squeeze the interior back up every time I tilt the cab. (Somehow it's still slightly loose inside!). The exhaust does not meet the turbo (need to have mounted it lower down I think). The driver grab rails are on upside down. Oh well. I have no idea what I was supposed to do with all the licence plates. I know that more than one should be on but don't know which one is the actual truck plate and what I'm supposed to put on the trailer. I was going for the owner/operator look rather than the fleet scheme that came with the kit. So should I have bothered to put the numbering decals on the cab doors? Anyway, let me know what you all think please! And what's a good kit for a Pete or KW conventional? I'm looking for something with a decent size sleeper and not any more trouble to build as this, but can look as good as this K123.

Well nearly a year has passed, and I have been working on and off over the last 11 months on the rig. This included painting the cab twice, having had to strip off the first attempt. A lot of the build was spent trying to figure out where everything actually fitted or was meant to fit. I finally discovered that I actually have the chassis out of square, one rail is ever so slightly further forward than the other, coming to note only when I fitted the bumper. I used the idea (from here, sorry can't remember who said it) to glue the grille to the hinges first, and later to glue the cab to the grille. Defo the way to go. It has lots of mistakes, but I'm happy with it, and most of all I enjoyed the challenge, and love the finished result. However, I'm open to constructive critisim (I'm normally a 1/72 aircraft, 1/700 ship and 1/25 car guy) and would like some pointers. I have the flatbed and chrome Texaco tanker trailer kits and would like to build a couple of conventionals to pull them. However, I can't find the old AMT Peterbilt and Kenworth Conventionals kits that were around when the K123 was out. Are there only the horrendously expensive Movin' On kits on ebay available? Anyway, let me know what you think? Cheers, Roy
