  1. The SMS kit features the Revell kit as it came from Revell. SMS added templated carbon fiber decals, a large fret of photoetched parts, resin calipers, and of course, those unbelievable wheels. I've got one, but unfortuately it is still packed away from my Michigan to Seattle move. One of these days I'll figure out which box I buried it in.
  2. The Vette was only available in white in 1953. There were only 300 cars built that year, and they all looked alike. I would look to Tamiya for your paint. They have a good white primer as well as the Pearl you're thinking about.
  3. I feel lucky to have been able to have seen many of the top models in the country in person over the years. This is a really hard list to compile, as there is a ton of great models out there, but here are my nominees. 1 - Russ Schwenkler's GSLMCC winning motorcyle 2 - Jim Drew's 1/12 Corvette Grand Sport 3 - Cody Grayland's Williams FW-07 4 - Bill Brown's 1/43 NASCAR T-Bird 5 - Doug Whyte's '53 Studebaker 6 - Ken Hamilton's Oakland Roadster Show diorama 7 - Ray Patrick's Custom Ferrari 250 SWB 8 - John MacGowan's 1940 Willys Pickup 9 - Randy Derr's 1/12 Penske '69 Camaro 10 - Mark Gustavson's '51 Mercury Custom As I said, this is not an easy list to keep to only 10 or so entries, and there are certainely a LOT more examples of incredible model building out there.
  4. Hi - I'm Mike Siegman. Many of you may already know me, as I've been involved with this hobby forever, and have travelled to many parts of the country. I have just moved to the Seattle area, after spending the last 16 years in Michigan. I've been married for almost 25 years and have 3 kids. I've written for Scale Auto over the years, many of you may remember my Forum 43 column. Hopefully, I will be able to continue my writing for Gregg in the very near future. I started building at the tender age of 5, which was a long, long time ago. My building interests are pretty varied. I'm still heavily involved in 1/43rd scale, but do a lot of 1/24-1/25 scale building as well. I have enjoyed a lot of the work that you guys have posted over the years, especially the models of Marc Nellis, Darin Bastedo and Ismael Gonzalez. My main interests are Ferrari's, street machines, and endurance racers, but other cars of interest seem to find their way into my collection as well. A lot of you have seen some of my work, but never realized it, as I've done a fair number of box art models for Revell over the years. I'm hoping to get involved with the local club once I really get settled here in Seattle. I'm also looking forward to getting to some of the various west coast shows now that I'm a lot closer to them. I'm hoping to get back to NNL West next March, as I haven't been out to that show since the early 90's.
  5. Hey Lyle - what kind of scanner are you using? What is the resolution? I'm going to be going through the hundreds and hundreds of magazines that I have to scan the articles I want. I'm looking at an HP printer/scanner with scanner resolution of 4800 X 4800 - hopefully that will be good enough.
  6. Well, I've done it! I escaped Michigan. After 14+ months of unemployment I've had enough. The Flint area is a cesspool, and shows no signs of rebounding, so it was time to go. I packed up a truck with most of my kits ( the rest will come out in June ), my workbench and a few clothes and headed west. It was a long, but interesting trip. With the exception of a little rain in northern Wyoming, and some heavy fog west of Billings, MT, I had perfect traveling weather. I got to spend the night in Billings at Terry Jessee's house, which was really nice. I hadn't seen Terry and Cynthia for a long time, and I wish we had more time when I was there. Hopefully now that I'm on the west side of the country I will have a chance to see them more often. While I'm settling in here now, my wife and daughter are still in Michigan until June. My daughter is a senior in high school, and wants to graduate with her friends. Once she does that I get to do the second half of the move to get them out here. Then I can really start to enjoy the Seattle area. Until then, I guess I'll finish setting up my model bench and start building something - hmmm, isn't NNL West coming up soon?
  7. Gregg - try Model Car World. Dave has a Marlboro Red flourescent paint that I've been using for years. You will need to have a bright white base coat for it, and build the fl. red up slowly. The red will dry completely flat, so you will want to put a coat of clear on before decaling the body. Hope this helps!
  8. Try the 283 from the Revell '64 Chevy pickup. All small blocks are physically the same size on the outside. The 307 was the replacement for the 283, and only came with a 2 bbl. carb.
  9. I wish I could be there. As it turn out I have to be in Atlanta for 10 days starting next Tuesday - hopefully this will turn into the job I've been waiting for. 6 months of unemployment really sucks!
  10. There's no Mikee here! This is a really bizzare thread!
  11. Hey - I'm still here. E-mail your address to me and I'll send the wheels and tires to you for your Ferrari.
  12. Mike - is the kit you have one of the Fujimi Koenig Testarossas? If so, I may be able to send you a wheel. Are you missing a front or rear wheel?
