The Model Car of My Dreams
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No Sr.!!!! This car is NOT a copy of any Ford!!! It was developed still DURING the Great Patriotic War, with bombs falling, near and at times at the Gorky plant. It was sold for the first time in 1946, to help the moral and put the country back on wheels. Pobeda means Victory, and it's just what this little car means. -
Another oldie for you guys. Put some engine detail on this one, as it's a replica of a car my grandpa had. For me, this is the best looking car that GM ever built. Yep, his car had blue spark plug wires, and a 1953 engine with full pressure oiling system, that he made to look like the stock 1951 stovebolt. My grandpa was a Chevy guy. Every family has a black cheap, right?

Thanks gentlemen!! A parking lot full of 1957 Fords... That's a neat idea!! I don't know if they will fit there tough...

Thanks guys!!!!!

I can just imagine the kind of twisted out history lesson you got from a Mason. Around here they are opposition to the government, pro military intervention, pro U.S. intervention, and were on the military dictatorship side from 1964 to the end, having helped killing and torturing thousands. My father is a Free Mason, 33th degree, Scotish Rit, and he is what one could call an a**hole. After he started rising on Masonry, he left the party. Ask your friend about him, José Roberto Spósito. I don't know in the U.S., but in Brazil, they are the scum of mankind. They like to call themselves a "elite" and don't care about nobody else. Also act on extreme protectionism, like choosing a Mason or a DeMolay over more qualified people when contracting for a job. I know that because my brother was a DeMoley. He left disgusted about their corruption. My brother, me and my mother, none of us talk to my father anymore, at least for 15 years.

Thanks, but remember, it's 1/12 scale, so detailing is easy, everything is big. I have a closed cabinet, and I keep the models inside their boxes. Other than this, I have about ten clear styrene casings, and I rotate my models on them. Never displayed them other than that, or took them to any model car show or anything like that.

What a cutie!!! I don't know what's about black cats, but they are always at full throttle. My black cat, Comrade Lenin, is two years now. HE is the guy that eats up my diorama, and I have to glue ads on it to cover the holes!!! When I built this Chevy, I had no internet, and no evil bay. Soooo, BMF was a distant dream... I learned how to foil with white glue and household aluminum foil. When I got BMF, it was so easy, that was almost like cheating. Oh my poor diorama... That's why it's always full of cats hair.

I saw a movie about this car. And I know what she is!!!

Thanks guys!! I have 7 of them (cats), just love them. Yep, that's 20 years ago. The chrome is getting bad, and back in the day i Didn't sand the mold lines.

Sorry about that. I like it better painted silver than painted with alclad. Alclad is a "fancy" fake chrome, at least silver is more honest By the way, I bought a bottle of Alclad and also a bottle of their enamel black base. It looks like a very bright chrome paint, and that's it. Had better results with Abbro Chrome spray paint, for about 1/4 the price.

Got you!!! IT'S NOT A FORD!!!!! Took this one of the good old shelf for cleaning and waxing. It's the AMT kit, I built about 20 years ago, before internet and easy reference pictures, so I painted the interior the color I had. The body is Tamiya black. The foil is household aluminum foil and white glue. Special thanks for my crew: Andrew: and Lenin:

Looks good. Don't care about the wheels, but the workmanship is great. Tried to foil the bumpers?

You know Gene, I ALMOST painted her white. Guess my next one will be white. BUT I saw a really beautiful Thunderbird in Inca Gold at a car show, and I "had" to paint the car this color. I never saw any other '57 Ford painted Inca Gold, maybe because in the U.S. the car would be called a Taxi. In Brazil, in the 1950s Taxi cabs were black, and 99% of them were Chevrolets or Fords four door sedans. Untill the beginning of the 1970s you could still see shiny and impeccable clean 1949-1952 Chevrolet Stylelines and 1950-1953 Ford Customs with a "TAXI" tag on the roof around town. The stories the drivers use to tell were that the Chevy was your car for heavy city traffic, as the stovebolt six would never get hot idling on a car jam. The Ford was your car for long rides and taking passengers in a hurry, as the V8 loved the highway and could run 60 70 MPH all day long, while the Chevrolets from before 1953 couldn't, because of the non full pressure oiling system. Sustained high speeds on our hot climate would destroy the bearings. Yes man, I built my share of 1957 Chevrolets. The one I like the most is the Monogram Chevy in 1:12 scale. Take a look: It's all box stock. Just added quarter windows and chrome tail pipe ends.

Guys, thanks a lot!!!! I was not very happy about the car, because of the FORD lettering on the front end. I painted it ModelMaster chrome silver, but it kind of looked "fake". The kit's decals, are too small (in my opinion of course) and they also look "fake". After about 10 attempts, I was able to actually foil the tiny FORD lettering. I used my amateur microscope from when I was a kid (I'm not kidding, it's a toy, but it enlarges things a LOT more than just a magnifying lens) and I cut the letters on the BMF and after installed them on the car. Not 100% perfect yet, but better than paint and decals. Remember I build box stock, so, no PE allowed.

1951 Chevrolet Fleetline - Custom - W.I.P.
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Rich, I've built several of those cars, as I really like their looks. One thing I learned about the kit, is that gluing the inner fenders and firewall to the body first thing, and not as the instructions say to, helps a lot to have the front end all aligned. This is how I've being doing 1951 Chevys, and since then I had zero problems making the front end parts to align properly. -
Remember, don't post any answers or hints here!!! Send me a PM with make model and year of this beauty!! Car ID par Túlio Lazzaroni Lovefordgalaxie, on ipernity The answer is: 1906 Darracq Grand Prix

Oh man, that sucks big time. I really hate when that happens to me. If the paint was not dry, maybe you should use a dehydrator. That is one thing that living in Brazil saves you from. All my enamel paint jobs dry in a couple of hours on summer, and in a day on winter. Tamiya lacquer spray paint? Give it 20 minutes, and you can hold the body on your hand already. The one time I had the very same problem you had, I used old enamel paint thinned with even older thinner. That thing took almost a month to get hard. Another thing that can ruin your day is to use lacquer thinner on enamel paint. That will slow down the drying time and take the shine away. On the headers, usually the Gasser builders use long horizontal tubes to avoid the wheels. The Ford cars were a lot better made than the Chevrolets, and had more body mounts, with bigger rubber insulation. The frames also had the belly out format, to help protecting the car against side impacts.
-
I like the way it looks. There is just one problem I see: How is the car going to steer? Looks like the headers are in the way of the tires. I don't want to be a paint, I'm just pointing out what I think a judge would look at. This Ford deserves to win!!
-
Was looking at the headers, and thought: "Oh oh, that's not gonna fit the Y-Block" Then I remembered the SOHC...

Fenderless Ford (dealer show piece)
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Model Cars
To be driven? Like this one? I would have to add a seat, pedals, a radiator and a battery. It would be a wild ride!! -
Looks good. Very well done weathering Comrade!! 3a CCCP!!!
