Tamiya paint is lacquer, but it won't do any harm to plastic whatsoever!! If the plastic is of a light color, and I'm using Tamiya TS pray cans I never use any primer. Just have to mist paint the first two coats, letting a nice dry time between each coat, and you will have a nice and smooth surface after the "wet" coats.

Thanks for the kind comments guys!!!! I'm afraid I just started building another one... What can I say, it's one of, if not THE, best car ever built by human beings in all history, and not bad looking at all And on top of that it's a Ford

That's spectacular!!!! Not only the paint is spotless, the foil is also perfect, the interior, and engine detailing are also spot on!!! I wish I had the patience to do this kind of art work.

Perfect Thinner for Acrylic Paint
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Yes, I know about the ammonia, but I never let the airbrush to soak, or at least never had to, as I always do the cleaning ASAP. Since I saw your first video on acrylics and future tips, O bought some craft acrylic paint. The better brand here is Acrilex. It costs the equivalent to 90 cents a bottle of 1,25 OZ. Did some tests, and it performs as well as Testors or Tamiya. I'm predicting big savings here and have you to thank for them!!! -
Perfect Thinner for Acrylic Paint
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Agree with you. Here in Brazil, Windex is cheaper than windshield washer fluid. In the U.S. you can find windshield washer fluid in big quantities, here we can find it only in 500ml bottles, as people don't have the culture of using a specific product. Even on the cars owner's manuals they recommend to use "a few drops of household dish washing detergent" on the windshield washer bag and fill it with clean water!!!! Remember there is no need for the windshield washing fluid to be freezing resistant here. Thus Windex being cheaper. -
Thought of sharing with you guys what I use to thin my acrylic paint with. I use window cleaner, like Windex. Use it on Testors, Tamiya, and on craft paint as well. Works great, even better than the expensive specific thinners, AND it's a lot cheaper.

Painting wide white walls (old trick)
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Glad to be of service gentlemen!! Remember, paint in mist coats and never in wet coats to avoid paint from bleeding into the area you don't want to paint. Paint one tire at a time, and take your time and you will have a better whitewall than those tampo printed tires from expensive parts packs. Lot's of times they are not centered right, and doing it yourself, YOU will do the centering. Then just tape the tire tight to the template so it won't move, and you are ready to spray. Most tires have some kind of 3D detail on the sidewall forming steps, and they are perfect to use as references to center the template. -
I liked it very much. The color looks correct, and the completed model is very clean and impressive. I would be happy about it!!

Thanks Ron and Carl!!! Edit: Color is Tamiya Orange TS-12 over the bare plastic.

This one was built some time ago for a friend. While I was paying her a visit, I noticed the Poncho was broken, Brought it home, fixed it, gave it a coat of wax, and used some weathering to cover where I had to perform repairs on the frame and suspensions. The car was built box stock when first build and so it remains. Paint is Tamiya from the spray can. 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1962 Pontiac Catalina by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr

Love those little cars. The were manufactured here too, and I always liked their design. Ours was just like the one in red on the box art.

This car also hit something (in this case a hill side) while going backwards at high speed. One of the rear tires had a thread separation, and the car started spinning. The driver told me that if he weren't speeding, he could had controlled the car. Nobody died. The result was just a broken leg. Yep, that's it. The tire markings on the asphalt show that the car was actually spinning, but nobody saw it spin. It happened too fast. Like I also work as a safety engineer, i'm telling what I could conclude just by looking at the pictures. The police concluded the same, and like there were no other people involved, the car was removed after a few hours. At the pictures it's possible to see the tow truck waiting at the curb.
-
Well, if you are going fast enough, and looses control of your car, and it starts to spin, at every time it makes a turn it will be going backwards during some time. Nobody saw what happened, the pictures were taken by the people that were passing at the time.
-
The car is supposed to had hit the tree going at the same time sideways and backward (spinning). You can see the bushes down in a counter-clockwise way.

A preview of what raising the rear would do: Mr.Chevy by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr This Chevy is pretty high.
-
Now that I saw the body on frame, maybe another way would be to angle the front fabricated frame rails up a bit to a more parallel position the the rest of the frame. That would lower the front end.
-
Isn't possible to just flip the axle from the bottom of the springs to the top of them? That looks doable. You can always do the opposite and rise the rear a little.

Last 22th a guy that was drunk totaled his unrestored 1977 Dodge Gran Sedan. He lost control of the car, and went out of the road hitting a tree that almost divided the Dodge in two. The guy is recovering of several injuries at the local hospital and will survive... To lament whet he did. That's a complicated assembly. The good part is that it allows a lot of detailing, and you for sure are making use of the possibilities the kit offers Geoff. Top notch work. I have a question for the guys who are into Bugs: On our Brazilian built VW Bugs, the stamped steel panned above the driver and passenger is painted body color. on European Bugs is it the same? My uncle had a '69 1200 and a '77 1300L and both were body color on that spot. I had a '73 1500 for about a month, and that car had a wood grain plastic cover over the dash, but again, the panel from under the dash to the pedals was body colored.

"You know, this is not a contest winner, just a model with a good level of detail" Yes Harry. I'm very sorry to say, but that has came and gone. If this Stutz won't win a contest I'll eat all my '57 Fords.
