peteterbilt 379 w.i.p
rottin1 replied to mse op's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm liking that Blue! Can't wait to see it with clear coat on it. I'm looking through my stash of trucks now to see what one would look good with that Blue on it!! Is it Tamiya paint or something different? Your progress is coming along nice on this! Keep it up! -
Semi: I like that headache rack!! Looks better than the one that comes with the Revell trucks. I really like the way you used the chalk to outline details on the frame rails. I have a ton of chalk I used to use weathering my N scale locomotives. Never gave that a thought, but after seeing yours, I am going to try it. Keep up the nice work!!

Italeri Curtainside Trailer
rottin1 replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for the kind words! Semi : I know, the super singles look awkward and I'm not to thrilled with the way they look, but I'm sticking with them only because I'm so far into the build. I think once i put the fenders on and add the tool boxes it should take away from akwardness of the single tires. I had a helluva time with the paint on this. For some reason, there is a mark on the side of the trailer that cannot or will not be covered with paint. It must have been because of a mold issue or something in the plastic. Every time I primed and painted it would still come through.I even tried a skim coat of body filler, then sanded it, but it still came through. I've got it to where you really have to look hard to see it. I really don't feel like tearing it apart to add regular duals to it. I will definetly pick up another one of these to build as a regular trailer. Assassin: Thank you for the good words! I'm sure your looks good as well. I almost did build it as a 3 axle trailer myself, but then I came up with the brainstorm with the spread axle. -
Italeri Curtainside Trailer
rottin1 replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I've taken a break from my Pete auto rack restoration to do a little more work on my curtainside trailer. I've got way to many irons in the fire, but it's challenging and fun. I've got the wheels on this and eventually I'm adding single wrap around fenders on each of the wheels. It looks a little awkward without them I think. I never was a fan of super singles. I think someday I will pick up another one of these kits and make it a regular 8 wheel trailer with sliding tandems. I've painted the rear doors Duplicolor Chrome. The front is also in Chrome with Red to match the frame and top of the trailer. I've decided to paint the curtainsides White. This has all been painted to match and sit behind my 359 daycab. I BMF'd the tie down ratchets on the curtians.I am going to paint the straps between the ratchets and buckles as well. I'm hopefully going to fab up some strap loops as well to hang down from the ratchets. The only regret I have so far is not painting the very top of the side curtains to match the Red on the rest of the top curtain. The back end of the trailer is next. I have to fab up a more American looking rear end on it. I'm working on adding 2 tool boxes, one for each side between the tires. I'm thinking those will help also with the awkwarness of the single tires. Hope you enjoy the new pics. http://s159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...%20Curtainside/ -
What kit did you use to start this project? The Revelle of Germany or the Snap tite truck??It looks really tough!!! I like the Orange and White combo with the paint. Really looking good, keep the pictures coming!!

Truckmodeler.com?
rottin1 replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I was thinking maybe Tim was upgrading or maybe doing a new website or something. Jim: I thought it was kind of quiet as well, but then again, probably everyone is working and can't find the time to visit the site during the week.......... unlike me....it's so slow here, I have the time to check it out from work!!! -
Yeah, I agree!!! Very cool paint jobs!! I really like the Lime Green one as well. Looking sharp!!!!

Where was this show anyways? I have seen several of the truck models in person at a couple of local shows around my area. I didn't even realize this show was happening!! Awesome pictures!! Really nice work!

All my models that I have painted (both big trucks and cars) have been painted either outside or in the back shed. I do run a fan when I'm in the shed. I also have a airbrush that I used in the past for my model railroad, but have never used it on a car or truck model. Don't get me wrong, I would love to try it again on those type of models, but I hate setting it up and then tearing it down to clean it for roughly 10 minutes worth of work. I will try it someday, because I really want to try my hand painting with nail polish. Nail polish has so many colors to chose from, making it appealing to me.

Steve: What "other" forum are you speaking of? I too belonged to "another" forum. Most of the people were "ok", some of them were put up on pedestal's so high you would have thought they were god! Just curious to what "other" forum you were speaking of! No problem if you don't answer that, I completely understand.

I wanted to delete this post. Can't figure out how to do that.

Pete 359 Auto Rack Restoration
rottin1 replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
455: Start a forum on here! Let's see some pics!! I am really enjoying this build, because it's my first attempt at tearing down a model and redoing it. A little tougher than building it right out of the box. I'm glad I did attempt this and have a few more at home here to do the same thing too. It seems as though with the prices of new kits these days, it's not too bad of an idea to try this. Like I said, this project came off eBay, to my door for $52.00. I couldn't score this kit for no less than $150.00 I believe. I bought an old AMT freightliner cabover in the same condition and am going to attemp a resto job on that as well. I haven't seen that kit ( the cabover) on eBay for any less than $100.00! I'd love to see your work 455. Thanks! -
"NEW PHOTO ALBUM"
rottin1 replied to Semi Trailer Mechanic's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yeah I really like the bottom dump and the tanker trailer as well! Nice scratch building there!! I like the fact that you build your own trailers like that instead of settling for the ones that are old and outdated that are currently on the market. I just wished eithee italeri or revell would step up to the plate and start making some more realistic and modern trailers for us. I really like you work! Keep it up and keep showing off your great work!! -
Pete 359 Auto Rack Restoration
rottin1 replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you very much for the good words! This is my first attempt ever at a big truck resto project. It's just as much fun to restore as to start from a brand new kit. The trailer is going to be painted the same Yellow. Thanks for looking -
I know I have a Curtainside project going on here as well but it's been on hold ever since I picked this Revell Auto Carrier up on eBay. I paid around $52.00 to my door. It was never painted, only the decals were applied, thus making it somewhat easy of a restoration as far as paint goes. The trailer is pretty much mint with only minor work to be done. It needs a good bath , then primed and paint over. Everything was with the trailer except for one back loading ramp. All of the parts as far as mirrors and light ,etc. where there as well for the tractor. The tractors front axle was snapped of as well as one of the rear axles. I've already started restoration on her and thought I would share the album with you guys. Enjoy, it's been pretty fun restorating this. http://s159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...%20Restoration/

365 project Finished!
rottin1 replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Everytime I look at your work, I am amazed at your skill and knowledge of the peterbilt family of trucks. Very very nice as always!!!! I like the plastic on the seat too!! Nice touch of realism. Great idea on filling in the holes on the budd wheels as well. I have thought about doing that myself with some of my future builds and after seeing several pictures of the results, I like it and am going to try it. Nice work Tim!! -

rottin1 replied to Twist67's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Excellent work so far on this cabover. I have been trying so hard to score a cabover Pete or Kenworth on eBay, but every time they go for around 100.00 and I am not or cannot afford that right now. Someday I'll find me one at a decent price. I saw your comment on how you sanded down the rivet detail and had to fix it or replace them. How exactly did you do that anyways? I am also working on making a double bunk cabover freightliner and really cannot do it without messing up some of the rivet detail. can you guys give me some advice on that??? Much appreciated!! I really like your effort on this and it's showing!! Very nice work and I'll be watching this one come to life for sure!! -

Dave, Awesome idea here! This kit is becoming quite popular. I've already built 2 of these kits and have 2 more on the shelf. So many possiblities for this model. I can't wait to see more work on your cab! Keep it up! -
