  1. Conversion of a conversion, the Canopy Express is a rare vehicle to begin with. I started this April 1995. *Edit* I made it a 1948, simple to remove the door vent windows. For starters, anyone building the '50 Chevy pickup needs to know, the driveshaft should be assembled the other direction, the end at the differential is fixed, the instructions are incorrect. The other thing I've done so far, is correct the running boards, by shaving down the perimeter so the ribs stand proud, not recessed lines, that's a pet peeve of mine with this kit. Another pet peeve, is the firewall should be flush with the front of the cab, not recessed back, but that requires reworking the recess for the engine, so I have corrected that. Yet another pet peeve, is flat headlight reflectors, that has been corrected. Can't forget the door handles, they were shaved off, will make new ones, that will sag like the real thing. LOL The reason I put this away for so long, the interior needs a total scratch-build. The resin floor with wheel wells is completely incorrect. I am planning to not keep the wood floor boards, but make it like they put in diamond plate or a newer ribbed truck bed (will be last minute decision). I have turned the wheel well form, from Corian using the drill press. I'm now at the cardboard mockup stage, which will become part of the plastic form to vacuum-form the interior panels. I have the tailgate done, used eye glasses hinges, and interior panel is done. I'm now working on the driver seat, which I had previously cut down from the bench seat, but was incorrect. I am also making a new gas tank, based on the drawing in the repair manual that I kept from owning the real '48 5 window. Next steps are: bed sides with "rolled" edge, center taillight and also the other taillights, 4 on the floor gear shift, thinking about making a hood hinge with spring and latch, perhaps a roof rack that would be made of rebar, dings and dents with rust holes, will try some extreme weathering techniques. The final touch, what should the painting company name be (plan is to have spilled paint inside to use up paint)?
  2. This scary little puppy is finished! My goal was to have it on the table at the Philly NNL last Saturday and I managed to finish it up Friday afternoon with time to spare! This is a project started back in 2008, revisited in 2012 and finally put on the bench with intent of finishing it about a month ago. I had asked friends for suggestions on a number of details and incorporated a lot of their feedback into the final model. Falcon Ranchero bed.. some guys at the Philly NNL thought I used the bed from the 1/32 Ranchero, but no it's a sliced and diced bed from the 1/25 version. New Jersey plate was one I already had made up, placed on the vehicle hastily to look complete. I reserve the right to change it to a personalized one someday in the future! Friends suggested bomber seats, so I grabbed the set that was in the recent Revell Model A chopped coupe. Clear steering wheel came out of an AMT Riviera, parking brake is VW. Console is '57 Ford custom unit whittled to fit. I drilled in some cup holders because I go nowhere without my big cup of coffee! I gave some details to the dirty underside. The exhaust is the stock set that came on the custom 1950 Ford pickup, only cut right behind the mufflers. I added some chrome ends that probably were intake parts in their previous life. Here she is sitting next to my stock 1950 Ford pickup just to illustrate how modified she really is! The body was sectioned and once the top was removed the windshield was chopped as well. Maybe I should have cut a bit more off of that! And she's shorter too! I had taken a bit out of the chassis length. In this last shot you can see how I raised the engine up a bit so that the injectors came through the hood. This is a fixed panel, reminiscent of those old pickups with the two sided hood. That is the flatty with the Ardun heads that came with the kit. So in the end we have this crazy little rod. And the voices in my head are pleased!
  3. Hers is my 1950 chevy suburban that i just finished in time for the NNL WEST at Santa Clara. This started out as a 50 chevy resin kit, but i modified it with the amt 50 chevy truck cab for a better fitment of the hood and doors. The original piece needed alot of work in correcting the window frames, and adding new rear fenders. Also had to ad some styrene to the sides of the lower panel areas to be able to flow evenly with the lower section of the doors. I made the clam shell style rear door instead of the barn door style it came with, scratch built the following: rear single brake light attached to the tailgate, front visor, traffic view finder, compass, rear splash pan, all seats, seat frames, inner rear door panels, and couple other small items. There is a real working speaker system built in played by an ipod shuffle and yes it does still have full suspension. Well enough about it lol, and enjoy the pics
  4. Here is my last build, a 1950 Oldsmobile. This one is not for me, but for a guy in California who wanted a car, like if it spent a lot of years near woods in Oregon. So a rusty and very weathered car. The kit is from a 1/25 Revell box, but the body is a resin. Pictures ! A lot of parts are missing on that car, chromes, hubcaps, the interior is almost dismantled, there are some parts from other cars.
  5. I wanted to make it like a car I would want to own. I've always thought black was a good color for cars of this era; so I went with a gloss black color for the car. I kept it classy with a white interior. I wanted it to have kind of a hot-rod, moonshiner type car.
  6. Revell Drag Austin... I've got a soft spot for slow English cars. So now I'm going to "restockify" this Austin. Gluing the doors shut because I hate hinges... New seats, new wheels, smaller diameter rear wheel well, taillights, grille... Cosworth 4 cylinder engine? Hmmm.... Here's what I'm starting with.
  7. So I just finished my 1950 Olds barn find survivor car. This is what I would do to this particular car if I found it in a barn somewhere. Clean chrome, basic interior, but fully functional with the patina intact. Hope you guys like it!
  8. Finished the Olds last night. This was a very good kit and I enjoyed modifying it into a mild custom.
