Scale I Build

Found 5 results

  1. Just finished this build. It was probably one of the most difficult ones I've done because of all the fitment problems in the kit. Hood didn't clear engine. Wheels didn't fit wheel wells. Etc. So a lot of plastic carving. Here are some of the prelim stages
  2. I have a big bunch of projects on my bench, '62 Impala is waiting for the second clear coat to dry, '50 and '61 Oldsmobile Customs are waiting for paint to dry in the interior parts and then there is a '60 Fury Mild Custom on my bench as well. But this just had to get going. Santa brought this Yesterday and since it is '60s Stocker I started it immediately by searching reference material about this car. I found more information that usually when building something from this era, so I could start building right away. As I already posted on Car Kit Reviews section, my kit (as well as many others) had one Racemaster and one Good Year slick tire. I sanded the tire texts away with a 400 grit sandpaper. Then I sanded the tires up to 1,000 grit and they looked pretty good. I might finish them with 2,000 grit paper, but I'll have to think about that... Then I moved on to the engine. After some sanding and removing mold flash, I glued the block halves together. With some Liquid Glue by Tamiya and sanding, I got the seam smoothed out and then I painted the block and other parts with Humbrol's orange. The wheels were also painted with Humbrol Polished Aluminium. Here are Pictures of the parts trees... Here the first picture shows one sanded tire and other one as it came from the box. The other one shows both tires sanded smooth. Engine and Wheels. And last... One picture of the real car.
  3. After the struggle I went through on JerrysCherrys figuring out how to post pictures, I doubt I'll dive into Photobucket for a while. However, if you're a member there, go to the "help" forum and you finally find a thread from me with thumbnails of 4 shots of my car. If you click on them, you'll see the body, engine, driver's compartment and finally the total build shot. After following directions, I shot 3-4 coats of clear and it was on the last one the clear bubbled from shooting too close, almost like soap after washing your hands. I failed at wet sanding with 12000 as the clear wasn't set. Luckily, the thing causing the problem (pactra gold striping) which hung the clear from slowly dissolving down the side of the driver's door was stripped off and I reapplied a different pattern which covered the mess. I'm hoping for one more shot at a body offered for shipping only and I intend to drop the striping and simply paint it Purlplicious. Either way, for a 2nd build in 45 years I think the end result isn't a total loss. I'm adding coiled wire for NOS and transbrake to the steering wheel in the meantime while I wait for the new body and perhaps SMBC harnesses for both seats. Thanks for all the help and advice!
  4. Ordered this kit on monday it got here saturday. Hasn't been too bad, theres a few nicks and burrs you gotta you gotta knock off with a razor after taking them off the tree but I actually had pretty good luck. I really wanted the engine to look nice but do different. Ive seen alot of hugger and red and dont get me wrong I like them both but I decided to match the body color like some pro streets youd see at a show. Its Duplicolor BGM0539 replaces T155. I still dont know what im gonna do but im sure its gonna be pretty basic. This is my fist drag car so I dont have any spares for it. Might get a fancy steering wheel or something
  5. Hey guys, I need some advice. I have a 66 Nova that I'm getting ready to start on. I want to cut a square hole in front of the rear fender for a box type exhaust tip. This is my first body mod and I don't want to damage the body. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
