Wow,,been doing some commission builds this month for some folks at roush,,but had time to finish the 1/16 AMT 57' Belair,,it turned out ok,,but there was alot of "fine tuning" and other stuff to get it here. I wont bore us with all of what I had to do,,but it took alot longer than it should have. The color is Tamiya pearl green,,which turns out to be a GM color from back then,,custom mixed paint for the 2 tone interior,,and of course added some x-tras in the engine bay. All in all,,it was a cool kit to do. And worth the purchase price. Keep those plastic creations moving forward! Cheers,,,,S

While digging through my 62 parts boxes looking for something, I discovered that I had enough parts to build another 62 Bel Air. The first one I built was way back in 2011. I thought about it for while and decided I wanted to build a small block car, namely a 283. Something that the vast majority probably bought new in 62. I sourced some white wall tires from the last release of the AMT 53 Studebaker and found a set of steel rims from the AMT 59 El Camino kit that fit the tires better than the steelies that came in the 62 Bel Air kit. I'll use the poverty caps from one of my Revell 62 kits on this. I just happened to have a 283 engine/trans from the AMT new tool 57 sitting on my bench, I sourced a 2bbl intake from an AMT 55 Cameo pickup kit, valve covers, water pump/timing chain cover, exhaust manifolds, and the starter from Revell old tool 57 Bel Air kit. I'm using the air cleaner from a Revell 65 pickup kit. Then, what to paint it? I wanted something to go along with my current 62 to 64 Impala builds, so nothing to crazy. I settled on Tamiya Mica Silver, not quite the silver that Chevys came in in 1962 but close enough for me for this build. Besides, I would have to order some silver leaf and I feared I'd lose momentum if I stopped to order paint. For my Revell 62 Builds I had bought some Model Car Garage phot-etch because the Impala SS kit did not have any SS badges for it while the PE set did. The PE set also includes bel air scripts, and the 283 fender badging. So I removed the crossed flags and "409" from the front fenders prior to painting. So, how's it going? This AMT "Old Style" Chevy was Odds & Ends French Country Yellow with an Odds & Ends white top. Body was then clear coated and Bare Metal foil applied. I used the kit decals for inside the spear. Interior is painted a custom mixed shade of yellow with white seat inserts. Engine, wheels and tires are from the AMT 55 Chevy pickup kit. The driveshaft is an aluminum tube while the kit supplied the U-joints glued in the ends. I used a piece of wire and bent it to achieve the lowered nose and I couldn't resist putting in some Photo-Etched speaker covers. All in all a very fun build. One of the first models I completed after getting back into modeling in 1995. Thanks for looking!

Getting back to this one final. Did some work on the interior, Tamiya Dark German grey, flat aluminum, ultra bright BMF, and kit supplied decals. I think it come out really well, just some touch up on the aluminum on the front seat. I have some Ken's Fuzzy fur for the carpet area.

Started a few days ago with a body that I had painted years ago, I reshot some Tamiya Italian Red over it. The wheels are a set of AMT 69 Chevelle SS Wheels that actually inspired this build. Engine is from the kit, with an intake from the AMT 55 Chevy Sedan kit. Parts box "Corvette" valve covers and metallic grey painted headers. Frame is done. I used the stock exhaust and just mated it to the headers. Thanks for looking! Al l comments welcomed.
