Scale I Build

  1. After my exhaustive 1/12 build I need a quickie project to return my sanity. This Nissan Fairlady 2000 that was painted January last proved just the ticket. Color was Tamiya TS-75 Champagne Gold with TS13 clear. Paint was very smooth and took little polishing. Kit was pretty straightforward and there were only minimal fit problems. Radiator hose proved to be the worst and making a new one out of soft tubing was a no brainer. I liked a lot of the little detail Fujimi provided. See picture captions. My Nissan collection was incomplete without this one. Finished kit on its wheels. They steered but finding a place to run the tie rod was troublesome. I have seen of few of these around and from talking to some of the owners i understand this was a zippy little sports car. It was also heavily raced in some fo the SCCA's lower classes. This pic with the top down and supplied boot. rear veiw with the optional convertible top in place. I liked all the little chrome doodads from this kit. Rear bumper fit was a little questionable. Side veiw with the optional hardtop. This kit has a lot of chrome so bare metal foiling was fun. The emblems were foiled before painting and then exposed with a hard Q-tip and thinner then clear coated. A cute trick I have been using quite awhile now. Yes this kit had an engine but some of it was molded in place. I added some wiring and detail painting and of course that pesky hose. Most of the engine chrome was coated with different combinations of flat clear and smoke. Interior ws well detailed and Fujimi supplied the seatbelt hardware. I made the belts out of silk thread. Carpet is embossing powder applied over flat black Testors. I like embossing powder but it doesn't come in as many colors as flocking. Gotta find me some more. Thanks for looking.
  2. Finished this up last nite,a couple little fit issues but it went together, color is Insignia Blue,i added seatbelts and used embossing powder on the floor,a little something different on my shelf.?
  3. Back on the bench with a new build,i believe in North America it was called a Infiniti Q35,the kit can be built 2 ways. The Nismo version doesn't interest me so stock version it is,no left hand dash.? It's painted Testor's Insignia blue, didn't like the molded in mesh on the front grill so i grinded it out before painting, some specks in the paint so i need to polish them out. I added wheel weightS and valve stems to the tires. The chassis/exhaust and suspension painted in various Tamiya ,Vallejo and Mr.hobby colors
  4. This is a project that has been too long in the works and I figured it was about time to finish it. Color is Tamiya TS-49 Bright red. Interior is Tamiya LP30 nLt Sand and the dark brown accent is LP59 Nato brown. A great kit and I really liked it. I was fortunate when I bought it that the photo etch set (by Fujimi) came with it. They were a lot of fussy work but in the end well worth it it. Other than the hood (mine was slightly warped) the kit went together very well. Captions below the pictures tell the rest of the story. Thanks for looking and comments are always appreciated. I chose to go two tone on the seats. Seat belts and hardware cam with the PE set. The seatbelt material was easy to work with and looked extra nice. The engine had quite a bit of detail. The stick on chrome emblems really set it off. Rear end detail, some nice PE screens and more stick on chrome emblems. The egg crate grill was a very fussy PE item but when done was nicer that the kit chromed grill. Last thing to go on was the chrome Cavallino. Very delicate. Kit had poseable doors if you added the glue on latch piece. I re-engineered the body to accept this so I could display them closed also. The shiny round thing to the left is a magnet that holds the doors closed. They fit very well. Wanna go for a ride....keys are in it. Finished car on its wheels. Stance was just right. Body took some patience but eventually snapped into place. Rear view shows the graceful lines of the car. Phot etch wheel centers and Ferrari emblem were PE items and a nice touch. Pininfarina emblem and door lock were also included. I wound up drilling two #77 hole through the corners of the hood and added some wire aligning pins to help hold it in place. Tjhen touched up the paint. It did the trick and was easier than the magnet solution. Thanks for following.
  5. The famous Ken Miles/Denny Hulme runner-up car of Le Mans 1966 - out-of-the-box-built in 1990, photos from 2005 - spray-painted from the can. Main issue is the tire-lettering: I could not apply the rub-on decals, so I went for some decals from the spares which are too big - will be reworked some day. Here together with its sister car, the winning #2 (Bruce McLaren/Chris Amon)
