I just got this one rapped up this afternoon. I'm pretty proud of it, it was my first time ever polishing a paint job and I think it's not half bad. This is the re-issued MPC grumpy's vega. Upgraded with more accurate details, including the intake which came from the parts box. I adjusted the headers to make them correct for a SBC and put bigger collectors on them. The license plate was made with a pice of scrap plastic and a printed plate. I tried a new technique with the wheels where I put some matte clear on and some black-wash. I really like the effect. Here's the link to the WIP thread. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/191590-more-accurate-mpc-72-grumpys-vega/ Thanks for looking, and as always, comments are much appreciated. Elliot

Recently re-released Rat Trap Vega. Built OOB, phantom livery. I wanted to build this one as a prelude to the SalvinoJR kit. Comments welcome, thanks for looking.

Hello everyone. As I'm working on finding bumpers for my sox and martin cuda I decided to start this project. I started it last week and got to work on cleaning up the body. I then worked on the engine and put a different. I decided to replace the tunnel ram intake the kit came with one that would be better suited for a hemi or a ford because of the equally spaced exhaust ports. I also cut out the inner fenders on the front because on the real car they were flat and not round. I then made the flat sheets to go on the inner fenders because they would be more accurate. I was deciding on whether or not I wanted to make the finder well headers that the car has, but I am now leaning towards just using the kit ones and just going for the flat inner fenders. i also sanded down the detail on the fire wall and filled in the gaps. I then started working on the roll cage and added a crossbar in the back because that is what the real car had. I just used some straightened out paper clip for this. Then I threw some black paint on it. I started to add some paint to the chassis. Painted it flat black and accented the rear differential and front suspension with glass black paint. Lastly i painted the interior, dash, and seats. I shaved all the detail off the dash and painted it silver because who needs a radio on a race car?. Then painted the intirior tub silver and added a shifter. And threw some semi-gloss black on the seats. Thanks for looking folks! Critiques and comments are welcome. FMC66

This was assembled from the fabulous mpc grumpy’s toy pro stock Vega kit . I added a small block engine from the amt 1970 Z-28 kit with the tunnel ram from the pro street 66 nova. It’s finished with testors revving red lacquer, white enamel, and clear coat. Topped off with slixx decals I found the thin pin stripe decals extremely difficult to put on. Overall it looks good . Until next time thanks for looking ?, Mike

My wife used to have a '77 Chevy Monza so I got one of the Monza re-releases the other day. It doesn't have the 4 cyl engine, but the rest of the kit looks decent enough to build like hers was. Does anyone know where I can get one or does someone have good pictures of all four sides so I can? A lengthy google search was unsuccessful, I only found a good picture of the passenger side. If this is in the wrong forum, please move it mods.

Does anyone make a rear spoiler extension for the 70s era Vega funny cars in 1/25? I know comp resins makes a 1/16.... I would even take good dimensions. I've tried to make my own but they stink...... Look too thick or too big. Trying to make a jungle jim and setzer vega and it seems they ran with em. Any help would be appreciated

I've been racing something since I was four. Starting out in an outlaw go kart that I raced from four years old to about 8 years old when I lived in Washington, my family and I then moved to my dad's hometown in Oregon where I still currently live. The rules at our local asphalt and dirt track were a lot different than those in Washington, our carts were making too much power with no restrictor plate so they were illegal. Slowing the carts down just wouldn't be fun to race anymore so my dad looked into other things. We found a guy with an old junior dragster that was looking to get into cart racing. Coincidence? I think so, we traded our four carts, two dirt and two asphalt carts to him straight across for the ready to race junior dragster. I started racing it almost immediately after we got it, my first racing season when I was 9, I took 3rd in the points race missing 2nd by a rounds worth of points. Between the next season we cleaned up the car and built a new engine for it to make some more power, that season I took second place to the 16 year old veteran who had several years more experience than I did. The very next season was a great season for me, I won two junior Wally's and took 1st in the points race beating my much older rival. From that year on I won every championship and brought home four more junior Wally's, a state championship, and a $300 savings bond. Here's some pictures of the kart racing and the Junior Now after two years of working all summer long, I'm stepping up to a full size car, after selling the Chevy luv I bought, and selling some parts laying around the shop, I had saved enough to buy exactly the car I've been wanting since I was racing the junior dragster, a '71 vega panel delivery tube chassis drag car. I bought it from a long time racer and friend who saved the car for me until I could buy it from him, not only did he save it for a couple years, he knocked about 5k off the price that it would cost to someone else. I bought it as a roller as the motor and tranny is coming out of my high school car. The seller left all of the electronics, the fuel system, plumbing, you name it, he left it. I still have to buy a new set of slicks for it, a new 5 point harness, and a new shift gate for the shifter (because it had a power glide and I'm putting a turbo hydro in it) and a few other things before it can hit the track Pictures in the next post
