I've been hoping for a new Road Runner, and it just doesn't seem to be happening - the only product Revell offers is the 1:24 issue by Monogram, which is cheap but is also pretty stripped, and it really looks huge compared to my 1:25 Camaros. When will someone announce a new Road Runner... and perhaps a return of all of the other iconic muscle cars?

Might I suggest that you do a search on ebay? You'll find just about every model ever made there. It only takes about two minutes. A quick search pulled up over 300 results. Every year of Road Runner has been covered by one kit company or another up to '78. While you're there, you can find the other iconic muscle cars that have been kitted. They're out there, you just have to open your eyes and look for them.

I have to apologize for my comment that the AMT re-release of the 68 Road Runner was "unbuildable"... I found my old Amazon review and I actually gave it 3 stars out of 5. So, you're right - it was hardly unbuildable. Since then, I have built one of the older AMT releases, and rated it a personal "excellent". So, I must have been thinking of the 69 GTX that wound up in the trash. Again, very sorry for the memory errors. I still would like to see R/M come out with a 70 Road Runner in 1:25th.

In the hopes of being helpful here, this is a link to my online review of the AMT/Ertl reissue of the '68 Road Runner last year. It also includes some comparison photos to the original JoHan '69 Road Runner body.

I agree with the apparent majority opinion here, that the best combo (short of an all-new tool, which is unlikely in my view), is the AMT/Ertl kit innards, combined with the JoHan original issue body. Of course, JoHan also did a '70 annual kit in 1/25th which could also be combined with the AMT/Ertl kit innards, but the last time I checked, those were priced way up in the stratosphere....

Best regards...TIM

If you want a 1968 model year.....your only option is the AMT kit.

1969 is Johan only.

1970 is johan followed by the poor excuse monogram kit.

I would love to see an accurate 1970 kit in 1.25th scale..but imo is unlikely.

I have all 3 so I haven't been looking lately..but I know the 70 will easily pull the most of the 3 built or inbuilt .

the 69 kit is available but even the reissues pull decent money.

at the local swap meet this past weekend there was decent original issue 1969 builtup for less than 45

I've turned down over a $100 for my builtup 70 kit. So I feel there is a solid market for a new tool of it.

Same goes for mpc 1968 or 69 coronet kit.

I would like to see the '691/2 440 6BBL with the lift-off fiberglass hood. Who knows-if enough requests are voiced, they might be heard...

R/M i think could do a good job on a 69 roadrunner but for me it would have to be a 70' dodge charger to complete the charger line

with options to make an R/T or 500 with out door scoops! My 2 cents.

It would be great to see a new tooling for the 70 RR kit.it to me looks a bit bigger then it should be.but ifwe want a new toolingfor the 70 RR thenwe need to start with Revell or Round2 or Moebius. They are the ones that would do it.

Another great review Tim. I don't need another '68 Roadrunner, but I'm tempted to pick one up just for the box art. Looking at the rest of your review, I don't see enough issues with AMT's kit that would make me pass on it, if I was looking to build a '68 Roadrunner. All the "flaws" are so minor, I never noticed them until they were pointed out. And no one at my local model car club ever pointed them out, or complained about them. It looks like a pretty good kit of '68 Roadrunner to me.

I think the main problem here has not been addressed, and that is licensing of the "road Runner" bird from Warner bros. that would be a very expensive thing to get. if any 69 Plymouth B body were to be tooled up, it would probably be in the GTX fashion. I am no lawyer, but I know this effected the reproduction parts for 1:1's big time. maybe someone will have a better explanation.

Licensing could be the problem, but apparently, it's obtainable enough for Round 2 to include the standing bird logo and Road Runner decals in their current '68 kit. Those molded-in details were absent for all but the initial release by AMT/Ertl, if I remember correctly.

Yes, that's what I noticed when I built the 70 Monogram - it just looks huge compared to my 1:25 Camaros. Of course I do see how Revell won't bother retooling - as another response said - as long as it's selling, why should they retool?

Remember, the real Camaro is smaller than any real B-body Mopar, and 1/24 scale models are larger than 1/25 scale models. So, yep, the 1/24 B-body is gonna look huge.

That is a very valid point, especially considering this would be the second license on any new kit - the first being of course from the car manufacturer. I can only imagine how much WB would want for a Roadrunner license?! However, if it could be done at a $2-$3 higher price, I would gladly pay it!
