kilrathy10 Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 Oh, yeah....With the low humidity we suddenly have, I can mask it off, tomorrow, for sure.....Then it's just a matter of putting the undercarriage together.....
kilrathy10 Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 (edited) Painting went pretty smooth....Everything is going to plan, so far.....With the exception of my not being able to go to the show, this weekend.....It's killin' me....I want to go, so bad.....But, life happens.... Petetrucker07 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Looks great man. It came out very nice. Too bad about the show. There will be others.
Jim B Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 (edited) Nice looking trailer. The Krylon Chrome seems to have gone on well. I never had any luck with Krylon Chrome; just never seemed to dry. Edited April 22, 2015 by Jim B
Petetrucker07 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Nice looking trailer. The Krylon Chrome seems to have gone on well. I never had any luck with Krylon Chrome; just never seemed to dry. It takes awhile. I usually let it sit, untouched for 2 weeks. It's real touchy even then. I've found with Rustoleum brand chrome, it takes as long to dry but isn't as touchy. It can be tricky to spray evenly to prevent the metallic from seperating, looking like cracks.
highway Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Looking good JT! It looks like a Schneider trailer! What orange (if you didn't already say) did you use? It does look like Schneider orange, and there are some Great Danes in the van fleet. These followed me to my truck last week: I'm planning on my Smoothie to be a Walmart trailer, and the original to be a decked out stainless for my Ford project. I'm going to be watching too to see how you make the skirts, some of the Walmart dry vans I pull have them on. Also, I agree on not using the kit pull strap, it not only looks "chunky" but a little too long too. The Walmart reefers I pull have much shorter straps. The dry van does have longer straps, but most of the time they are also attached to the inside of the door. Also one thing I noticed looking through my smoothie, the Dane decals are correct for the coloring, red for reefers and green for dry vans, but if any of you are making a replica of a specific trailer like I'm planning with the Walmarts I'm going to build, check the color of the emblem and the emblem itself. Many of the newer reefers have the circular dog emblem instead of the regular emblem in the pic above and in the kit, and some of the dry vans here have black emblems instead of green.
Chu Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Beautiful combation of colors. I looking foward to your progress.
kilrathy10 Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 Side skirts and major undercarriage assemblies made.....I used .060 plastic stock for the skirt pieces with a lip made at the top with some Evergreen strip....Don't know what size....Anything would have done ok for this, so it's not important.....And I used some HO scale train track from Plastruct I got from a local hobby shop long since gone for the structure pieces.....Very simple and will look pretty convincing once attached.....All that remains is to do the wheels and tires and slap this sucker together....
72 Charger Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Looking good JT . Does that spray chrome buff up any ?
Petetrucker07 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Very nice man. Can't wait to see what your gonna put under this. The chrome looks great on the roof.
Tesla Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Looks good JT. Cant wait to see it with the skirts.
kilrathy10 Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) Hey, thanks, Boys.....Always cool when you boys chime in.... Dave....That paint doesn't take too kindly to any sort of contact after it's applied.....Really, the trick is to lay it on kind of thick.....It covers very well and likes to be applied in one coat....Usually, the way it looks wet is the way it will look dry.....So if it looks fuzzy when applied, just spray some more, a little thicker, and it usually goes away....But, man does it look good afterwards.....You really have to resolve in your mind that you can NEVER EVER touch it.... kilrathy10 Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) Man, this is a good kit.....All I need to do, now is add some decals, marker lights and a tractor....The truck I already have and will display it with this trailer in the Under Glass section, soon....But, here's what I have, right now....I glued the air pressure tank to the undercarriage so the tandem could be displayed wherever and fitted the skirts....I have to say I'm really liking the way this one turned out, and Moebius has produced us a beautiful kit.....We need more tractors from these guys, because I really think they know what they're doing.... kilrathy10 Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 As you can see, the tandem slides....One of these days I'll try my hand at some plumbing, but for now, this is pretty much it....Thanks for following my build.....This one was good fun.....Next post will be in the Under Glass section.....God bless you....
Petetrucker07 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Awesome work JT. Very nice makin the tandem slide. If Schneider's equipment looked this good, and they paid better, I would've stayed there. Now I'm really anxious to see what truck your gonna hook it up to.
Mopar - D Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 JT great job on the trailer it looks ready to go.
Superpeterbilt Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Great work man. I enjoy watching you crank these trucks out JT.
