Chuck Most Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 This is the 2003-ish Johan reissue, I've had it in my stash for almost a decade. What's sad is I did the chassis a couple of years ago (I added the AMT '62 Thunderbird custom wheels and tires), and the bodywork a little later, but it pretty much sat all that time. It only took a few hours to actually build. I decided to do it as a slammer- even with the detailing decals, that shallow interior was nothing to write home about, and the thick green glass didn't help matters. I also used the police siren and decals... now it kind of occurs to me that "slammer" is also slang for a jail cell, and this is a cop car. Seems fitting.
Petetrucker07 Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Cool build Chuck. You sure do nice work man. Well done.
Harry P. Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Looks cool, but I wouldn't have just painted all that side trim. Also, wheel covers need some dirtying up!
Chuck Most Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Thanks guys. Looks cool, but I wouldn't have just painted all that side trim. Also, wheel covers need some dirtying up! Uh.... I foiled the side trim. Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Harry?
Harry P. Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I'm talking about that side spear trim, the door handles. etc.
Danno Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 So, where did the red paint on the fin trim come from? Ramblers didn't have taillights on the fins. Otherwise, nice.
Harry P. Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Yep... foiled. Every scale inch of it. I don't get it. I don't see any foil, it all looks the same as the rest of the car.
thatz4u Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I don't get it. I don't see any foil, it all looks the same as the rest of the car. Look close Harry, the trim is foiled, it doesn't show well against the light body color.
Danno Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Look close Harry, the trim is foiled, it doesn't show well against the light body color. Everything is so heavily weathered the trim looks the same as the body. If you look closely, you can see the slight contrast at the very front tip of the side spear, and along the tops of the fender fins. But, it is not obvious.

If the trim and door handles are foiled, why does it look like it's all painted white like the rest of the car? Wouldn't you see the shine of the foil trim, even with the weathering? Since I didn't see any evidence of foil, I figured there wasn't any. Oh well... not important.
Chuck Most Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 I'm guessing the side trim is anodized- that turns kind of whitish over time. A light dull coat over foil will get you that effect. As for the red strips on the fins- the decal sheet had them, but because the driver's side decal tore, I just did them to sort-of match the decal pattern with red paint.
