DanR Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 HLJ.com is announcing that Tamiya will be releasing a kit of Toyota's first ever passenger vehicle from 1936. I think it looks pretty cool.
mike 51 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I think so too. (but this announcement was posted here about 3 weeks ago though)
DanR Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Oh man, I'm a bit behind the times on new releases lately. Sorry!

Eshaver Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 The Japanese must have thought a lot of the Desoto Airflow automobile
1972coronet Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I'd like to see a Stout ( pre-"Hi-Lux" model pickup ) ! Stock and period-correct hop-up parts (including , but not limited to : hot rod parts for the 4 cylinder ; Buick 215 V8 ; mag wheels ; etc.) .
horsepower Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Kinda reminds me of a mini Chrysler Airflow, am in the only one, is this a small car, or like some of the other Japanese early cars fairly large?

I'd really like to see a '60s-70s FJ40 Land Cruiser kitted...Tamiya makes a sweet large scale RC one..
mike 51 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Kinda reminds me of a mini Chrysler Airflow, am in the only one, is this a small car, or like some of the other Japanese early cars fairly large? If you Google it, you'll find a brief "road" test that Jay Leno did on this car (the car is nearly brand new, built by Toyota from blueprints in 1989). The video will show you the size it is (full size for the mid-30's standards). more>>> 112 in wheelbase 186 inches long 68 inches high 3300 lbs. roughly the same size as a 36 Ford. carnut Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) This looks very close to a Chrysler Airflow, so when it comes out I'm definitely getting one to hot rod it of course. Edited May 8, 2015 by carnut
jbwelda Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I wonder if this is going to have full engine detail and a stand alone engine? I just ordered one from HLJ, man can't beat that price compared to what its going to retail in the states for, but I wonder what the level of detail is going to be, besides Tamiya's usual excellence. jb

But we'll find out for sure next weekend when the big Hobby Show in Shizouka, Japan (where all the companies are located) occurs. Also will get a good look at the Honda S600 that's coming out this month as well.
carnut Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Sounds promising, as for me I will chuck the frame and all and hot rod it with whatever I can find to work. It will be fun.
