Sorry to here about the flooding, maybe you could build a culvert to drain into Ca, just a thought. Glad it creates work for ya though.

Nice progress on this so far. Small air tanks can do that, bounce off to who knows where. Door handles seem to fly off into the great nothing around my bench. I'm sure this will be a great addition to fleet, parked right next to your wreckers. You kinda got a emergency/recovery fleet goin.

Hey, here's an idea. Maybe paint it to match your Prostar. Half orange half black. Now that would be different and cool. Just a thought though.

Hey there, Dave...That first orange one is kinda what I had pictured in my head....The rims tires and fenders, anyway.....That's what I'm talkin' about.....I'm going to use the kit decals, though....As long as they're not brittle or anything....But that is exactly what I was looking for....Something in real life to back up my plan....Thanks for that, Man.....That's it....It will be very similar to that.....

JT,

I guess I'm going to have to live my "Big ARFF" fantasies out vicariously through you. During our move, I checked out the poorly built up Simba that I had bought on eBay several years ago. My intention was to rebuild it as an American ARFF. Well, when I opened up the box, this is what I found:

A twisted mass (or mess) of plastic... Now some might suggest a wrecked Simba that rolled. Still have to think about that one... Looking forward to your next update!

This thread has started an itch.

How hard is it to find a 1/25 Oshkosh 8x8?

Charles, the only ones I've seen are in 1:35 scale.

I'm afraid there are no Oshkosh or other American ARFF kits in 1/24-25 scale. It would be a scratchbuilt project. There are several folks doing different ones from my P-19, a friend's MB-5, and a fellow doing a first generation Striker. I started a new thread in the "Truck Stop" section to not intrude on JT's build thread.

Hey, Guys....I've run into some more "Life" issues....The toilet was backing up, and I was tasked to fix it.....I had to remove it and run about 50' of snake through......I'm sure my 1 1/2 year old grandson had a little something to do with it, but we may never know.......The evidence doesn't lie......The last thing I want to do after a long days work is come home to fix a toilet......I'm beat, Man.....It's fixed, now and I'm relaxing by checking the forum.......Be on the look out, Clayton.....These are the things to watch out for.....Toys in the toilet are a "NO NO".......I'm also in the process of buying my 26 year old daughter a car....Oh my goodness....Please pray for me.....

I hope to get back to this thing by tomorrow night.....

I did receive two of the four car haulers that I ordered.....So, that kind of softened the blow a little bit..... :)

Like I said, tentatively, tomorrow......

And, that is one seriously problematic rebuild you got there, Dave.....Did it come like that or was it just from a long time in the attic...??

Hang in there JT. It happens to the best of us. Two weeks ago, I came back from a last minute vacation to find that my toilets wouldn't flush and bathtubs wouldn't drain. I found this out at 11:30 pm, and had to be at the shop for 5:00am. I wasn't a happy camper. I got it done though. This Simba build got my wheels turning on an Osh Kosh HEMTT tractor.

I may just have to build one. The other day on the way to get dog food, I passed the Louisiana National Guard, and they had a few sitting out by the fence. I'm gonna go back and see if I can get some pics.

Terry,

It would be great to see you build the HEMMT tractor! Now the #125,000 question - 1/35 or 1/24 scale?

JT,

Sorry to hear about the grandson woes... Had some challenges the past week with my 16 year old. I'll trade you! Seriously though, I "thought" I had taken great care of my models in transit to Florida 3 years ago. This is the only one that I know of that is like this. We are slwoly getting moved out of the apartment and into our new home. Now I have to figure out the layout and funding of my new build, airbrush, display and storage areas... As the Bare Naked Ladies song goes "If I had a Million Dollars...". Going through builder's withdrawl...

Thank you all for the replies. Do you know which kit(s) could be used to make either of these (even in 1/35):

Also, 1000 apologies to Kilrathy10 for sidetracking your thread with my n00b questions...

SCI-FI,

I started a new thread "Scratchbuilt ARFF Vehicles" in the "Truck Stop" area.

No worries, Dave....I don't really mind....I finally got some time in on this baby.....

Frame assembly was a little challenging....The steering threw me a few curve balls, but I, eventually, got it together.....All the parts numbering can be daunting, until you realize most of them are identical.....Not sure why they were numbered like that, but oh well.....You definitely don't want to tackle a kit like this without some building experience under your belt....

Well, the tank that went missing was fabbed up using some 1/4" rod and some flat plastic I had laying around....

SAM_7639%201024x729_zpsxvauaxsa.jpg

The tabs for the steering pieces are way too short to heat sear, so I cued the MacGyver music and set to work......

SAM_7647%201024x675_zpsck6as8a7.jpg

I grabbed my trusty hole punch and made some disks out of some really thin plastic.....

SAM_7651%201024x595_zpspvzp1yqq.jpg

And this is what happened.....I wish I had something else a little smaller to punch with, but after painting, it won't be noticed.....

SAM_7654%201024x688_zpstwctihyt.jpg

After test fitting the tie rods, my alignment was a "bit" off.....So I had to make some new ones......

SAM_7663%201024x662_zpsvuj1oydb.jpg

The finished product......

Now, it's on to trying to figure out how I'm going to go about painting this monster....

your making good progress , JT . Half the fun in model building is the imagineering that's required to get the job done right. That's a good solution to the short pins. You could also salami slice some plastic rod to get small disks.

This is really neat. Was unaware of such a beast.

Look at the bright side. Fishing a toy out of toilet beats the typical alternative..

Kids and cars.....groan. Yes indeed, pray we must that they will heed some advice, engage the brain, and turn off the cell phone.

Look forward to seeing this come along.

Peace.

That would have probably been a good idea.....I didn't think about that one.....Of course the hole punch was probably faster, but slicing up some rod could have worked out nicely.....

And, thanks Guys....I'm totally going to get on it as soon as it stops RAINING around here.....We've definitely gotten our fair share, I'll tell you....

JT,

Looks to me like you have it going on here. For the painting on a frame like that. I will prepaint some areas. And will either mask off or later scrape unwanted paint away so I can glue parts on..

For the small discs. Do you have the Little miter box? And a razor saw?

Adapt, improvise and overcome! JT you can handle it! oooraaahhh
