After doing a couple of full detail models...I needed to build something straight out of the box!

Tamiya's Enzo Ferrari proved to be a good candidate, picked the kit up from my friend Hossain at last years NNL West. The decision to build this kit out of the box removed the carbon fiber decal ordeal...

Tamiya's TS-40 Metallic Black Spray Paint gives a very good representation of carbon fiber for models 1/24th and smaller - yes "carbon fiber paint in a can"

This kit turned out to be a real joy to build - the parts went together extremely well...only flaw was the fit of the rear engine cover, it's close but not perfect.

Painted the body with MM 2-part lacquer Italian Red followed with 2 coats of MM Ultra Clear Coat

I guess I can enter this in the "Modern Muscle Theme" at the NNL West, the finished model sure looks mean...

I have not played with the Revell kit, but the Tamiya kit had to be one of the best times I've had building a model car - everything just fit perfectly.

Besides the rear engine cover fit problem, a few problems did pop up:

the rear body work is a little tricky attaching, had to play with to get it lined up correctly...also had the same issue with the nose piece

almost messed up the headlight assembly...instructions have you place the clear lense on the bucket then install both from the bottom - normally you install headlight covers from the topside. Did not notice I had missed the clear lense til after everything was glued. Luckily with a little careful trimming they both popped in from the top.

thanx for the comments on the F1 cars...they got me into modeling - especially all of those big Tamiyas when they came out in the 70's

Curt my man! Very very nice, as usual. I know putting one of these together is a lot of work, and you did a great job. By the way, I am glad I had something to do with you building this baby!! See you this Saturday.

P.S

Raul,

I may take you up on that FXX!!!

Well Hossain, if anyone can do the FXX justice by applying the multitude of carbon fiber decals that it calls for, you're the man!! You're the only guy I know that can decal a scale basketball without having any wrinkles or gaps in it when it's done! :D

Let's just remember who's display case it'll end up in when it's done! :)
