In the kit review section I critiqued the 57 Ford Custom pretty hard pointing out flaws that I hoped would be addressed on the Del Rio.

I've seen a lot of built up Customs and there was always something bugging me about the front end. Well, I think I finally pinpointed it while helping my dad on his 57 Fairlane.

What I need is a pic of a built up 57 Custom. Pic needs to be straight on in the front and level and a level 3/4 front/side view to see if I am correct.

Thanks

To my eyes, it looks like the header above the grille is too thick. I could be wrong though. ;)

Roger, you are correct, the header is too thick and grill is too low. That is why (in my eyes) the front looked clunky and heavy.

The lower part of the grill bar needs to be thinned and the angle below the headlight needs to be flattened to raise the grill, bumper and valance.

The bottom of the bumper should actually above the bottom of the doors.

Now that issue I can see, but it is not too bad. I can live with it.

I considered several '57 era Fords when shopping for my first car ( 1961-63) however I wouldn't think myself an expert by a long shot, just someone that's been to the rodeo. :) Built a few '57 Ford kits through the years too.

So here's the deal, looks ok to me, I really don't see what the issue is. I am pushin' past the '60's though, maybe it's the ol' eyes. B)

???? I must be blind. I'm not seeing the problems with the kits front end. Even after looking at the real vs kit comparison photos. With the differences pointed out! This is baffling. And how does the AMT Ford stand up in a simular comparison?

Scott, compare post 2 and 4. The metal between the hood and grille. It does seem to be a bit thicker on the kit, not by much though.

If it is, and I'm sure your all right, that's getting way too picky for me. I really can not see it. I'm seeing a bulge in the metal under each headlamp that I do not see in the model. But that's it for me. And that bulge is so small I doubt anybody will notice it's not there on the kit.

I agree, the problem is no biggie to me either. None of the so called issues are.

Well, the front always looked too big to me. The front on the real 57 Ford is very slim as you see in Mikes pics of his car. the grill should be up tight to the lights. It is an easy fix but raising the valance and bumper is a little tougher.

As noted before, having a 57 Ford in the garage I see all the time, something on the Revell just bugged me. Took awhile to figure what it was.

This is only meant to be an FYI to fellow builders since i have seen other posts mentioning the front header above the grill looked too thick. Well, it is..

The AMT 57 the grill is up to the bottom of the lights and the area behind the headlight bucket is shaped better, closer to what it should be.

I can see what you're saying. That header panel between the front fenders on the AMT is split 50/50 over and under the crease, whereas on the Revell it's more of a 60/40 split and the headlight buckets are more conical on the Revell.

Too minor to bug me, but I get what you're saying. When you see the real thing everyday, you know what looks right when you see it (or don't!). I passed on a resin version of my 1:1 pickup because I thought if failed to capture the look of the real thing.
