Fabrux Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 After moving and finally getting my new model room all set up, I figured I'd get back to work on a project that I've been noodling on since March. Last fall I picked up a few of the MPC Dodge fourth generation D/W-series pickups and have been figuring out what to build with them, as I tend to gravitate towards options that were not kitted and/or oddball factory options. So, the first build of many will be this 1980 Dodge W200. I am using the cab from the Firefighter issue along with the kit bed and another Lil' Red Express bed to make my favourite bed option, the long bed Utiline. I added 18 scale inches to the front of the bed and six scale inches to the back. The chassis, interior, suspension, and wheels are from a 1975 issue of the tooling. I don't have much so far, but I do have the bed spliced together. I plan on narrowing the axles sufficiently to tuck the wheels in under the fenders where they should be. Engine will be an RB V8, probably sourced from an AMT 71 Charger as the kit's engine is quite the hodge-podge of parts.
426-Hemi Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 An '80 Dodge Ram? WITH a long step-side bed.. yeah this OUGHT to be GOOD! I'm tuned in on this one!
gatorincebu Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 OK I like it ! It would make a good get to work truck for a construction worker! Be Well Gator
426-Hemi Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 OK Never-did ask.....Whats ya plans for an engine????
Fabrux Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 It will be getting a big block, not sure where from yet. Don't really like the kit's engine as it is a bit of a mish-mash. I'm hoping the 440 from a Revell 69 Charger will fit the bill with some updating.
Fabrux Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 (edited) It's been a little while since I did anything with this one. I wasn't satisfied with how the bed was going together, so I made my own! Edited December 5, 2015 by kataranga Fix coding errors

I got a 440 in one of mine, thats under my "Father & Son Dodge Truck build" thread..... My truck got a 440 in place of the original 360 so. my Dad's truck had a 318 in it..... SO, I'm making models of both these real trucks!!! -Need any parts, let me know, I mold a lot of my own parts! Mopar specifically!
gatorincebu Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 That one is looking pretty good. Are you going to put wood in the bed or replicate diamond plate? Be Well Gator
Mopeyguy Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I like this unit, a have a half a dozen these mid 70"s kits.
Fabrux Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 I'm planning to build the floor out of basswood. Not sure yet if I want to try to make planks or cheat a bit and make it one piece with strips of metal.

Not sure yet if I want to try to make planks or cheat a bit and make it one piece with strips of metal.I'd use something thin over-all, say .040"-.060" thick. Then lay "C" channel as steel and then between that a veneer to look like the planks! -I'm doing this to a STOCK bed!
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I like the bed!! This is going to be good!
