Im not big on European trucks, but something about that new Scania looks cool. Im not going to try to get one of the limited editions, mainly because I blew my kit allowance on dump trailers. If a guy was going to try to kitbash one of these together using existing Italeri kits, where would he start? I know nothing about Euro trucks, so hopefully someone here knows. Is the Scania R730 single axle truck a good starting point, then add twin steer and 2nd drive axle? I know the kit comes with a bunch of cool PE stuff and custom parts. Whats the big box behind the cab with the web address on it?

The box is usually a steel frame that holds extra air tanks and tools; probably an APU (auxillary power unit) or fuel tanks, too.

The R730 has a different front end from other trucks (I think Italeri offer an R560) but the single drive R730 should work if you can get a hold of more fenders and axles.

And guys, for what its worth beware buying this kit on ebay. I read on Truck Model World where guys got ripped off with kits that when recieved. werent in the right boxes, and had poorly made resin knock offs of the kit specific parts.

Pretty sure KFS http://www.kitformservices.com can help you with just about everything you need for those trucks.....

I know I'd like to grab one of those Long Line trans kits for one of my Scanias.....

And check for pics from those Jabbeke shows....Those boys build those things quite regular....

Yes KFS has most of the parts needed to do a similar truck and their stuff are very nice, but I think it will add up to about the same cost as the complete kit when you have bought everything and you still need to scratch build some stuff anyway.

But of course, if you can't get hold of the kit it's a way to do one.

Yes, that's right. Separately it will be more expensive and not complete, because many parts are drawn in CAD an than made by cnc. And these you cannot buy anywhere. I think.

I understand all of that. I would just be happy with the same axle and cab configuration. It wouldn't necessarily matter if all of the details were the same.

Yeah....You're in a tough spot....Budget constraints and all....I'm pretty sure you'll need at least 2 Scania kits for starters....I've got a couple I'd be willing to trade, if you don't have them already....I think some R-500's or something is what I have....But that's as far as I think I could get you....lol....Hope you find a way to get it done....

I appreciate that JT. When the time comes, I'll let you know. I've been looking, and I might just get the Italeri R730 Griffin, make it a tandem, and call it a day.

Hey guys,

I just a little while ago made my PayPal payment to Heinz . I have never dealt on Evilbay, nor do I intend to start. if I can not get it direct from the source.

Or a trusted friend. I just will not get it.

If you want one of these kits I suggest you go to his website and send him a e-mail. That is what I've done. i do not know how many if any he has left. You will have to ask him.

I do know that according to Mick Gannon of M&G he has the correct front fender and body mount. But as it comes from Heinz it is still a great kit and

from what I understand will be somewhat of a challenge to build.

Well I will be finding out one way or the other!

As far as kit bashing one goes. You could try it. But you will most likely not be able to reproduce the kit as issued. You could or would be able to build something very similar in appearance. And I may use a different Euro kit and aftermarket parts to do something like that.

Gator, just for my interest, how much is shipping to you country? Because it is really heavy package.

Pavel,

Right off the top of my head .I think it worked out to about $40.00 US. What is going to hurt is the Customs charges on this end.

I found out this afternoon. That the lowboy kit and the wheels and tires from KJ .Will cost me about $60.00 US in Customs fees. But hey! I wanted it and now it will be here in a couple of days.

Yeah. Terible costs. It kills all bussiness. So as prices for kits out of Europe. I mean european marks. Such as Italeri or Revell of G. So as we are part of EU. Each country (in EU) don't pay custom. Just shipping. This Scania costs 150 Euro plus Shipping, maybe 12 Euros to our Country. That is all.

I do not think that was this kit. There was a similar model released a few years ago. And someone cloned it ( poorly I might add) and was selling them on E-bay. I almost bought one from a gy in Australia. But I had heard about the clone and when he told me the price I opted out of the deal.

As for this kit. Mine is on the way. Was mailed yesterday. So i will know sometime next week .

I must say my dealings with Heinz in the purchase of this kit. Were excellent. I will be buying from him again.

To scratch build or kit bash one of there trucks would be fun. I have thought about doing an American phantom version From what I have seen. ( I am making a W. A.G here) Adding another front steering axle is not a real problem. And I might even do a 8X8. That would be one heavy duty truck! The tower behind the cab usually hold fuel tanks, air tanks ,a possible auxilary power unit and possibly the air cleaner canisters, and also might hold a transmission cooler. I doubt that it would be that hard to cobble something together that would look the part.

It was this kit for sure because the guy posted pics of the Italeri box. I would post a link, but it's on another forum and I don't know if that is frowned upon. I was trying to find more info on this kit and it led me to that site. I appreciate the info on the behind the cab storage rack. I guess that stuff has to be mounted there because of wheelbase restrictions? I watched a video of one with a lowboy picking up a track hoe, and then drove backwards across the whole town, steering with the lowboy. That was wild. Is that normal over there?

When the counterfeiters post the kit on Ebay they usually use the original box art. And the previous heavy haul truck looked very similar. But what ever. there are many unscrupulous people in the world.

As for drive the truck and trailer backwards through town. i wouldn't know. I am in the Philippines , not Europe. But yes the trucks have been built to heavy haul specs within the scope of vehicle restrictions in Europe. While I am not a big fan of the Euro cabovers. I do like these heavy haul units.
