They did have some cool box art back in the day, probably sold more kits for that than the subject itself.

I agree. I find the illustrations to be a lot more appealing than the photos.

I mean...I REALLY WANT TO BUILD THIS...

That Monogram coupe/convertible could probably be bashed with the 1/24 Airfix/Revell Blower Bentley to make the James Bond version from the books. Might take some other sources, too, but the top and fenders are very close.

Hmmmm...a comment on the Model A kit shown above isn't pertinent? Hmmm.

You've lost me....I guess I just don't know your reference? A car Mr. Fleming wrote about?

No offense intended. :)

Ian Fleming was sufficiently vague and, in part incorrect, when he described Bond's Bentleys. While the original Casino Royale car may have been a Birkin-style Bentley as shown above, Bond had probably 3 Bentleys in the books. The following image would be closer to what he described as a battleship gray convertible coupe 2-seater. Note the housing over the blower. Though Bond wrecked the 1930 Bentley he had in Casino Royale (production ceased in 1931 on the Birkin-style racers), he is described as having bought his Bentley new in 1933 (that's why there is some inconsistency in the books). He had the next Bentley rebodied by Mulliner as the 2-seater he preferred.

In any case, you could probably make this Bentley using the Monogram Model A convertible Coupe and the Airfix/Revell Birkin Blower Bentley.

I have a a pair of the rear wheels and tires shown on this box art from one of these kits. Not sure what became of the rest of the kit, it was one my Dad had back when he was in high school around the early '60s. I'm not sure who did the measurements to scale it, but those wheels almost have to be 1/20th scale, rather than the 1/24 stated on the box. I measured them to check the scale, they come out to be a 19" wheel in 1/24. Did a shrink mold of the wheel, got it scaled down to a 16.5' in 1/25, they make great truck steelies.

Yes, I have an old Monogram "Long John" dragster, and the scaling is questionable as to being 1/24 as well...particularly the wheels / tires.

Though 18" rear rims were common on Indy roadsters of the era, 16" diameter rims were common on drag racing vehicles.

ebay is the only way

liked it so much I built it nearly stock too. these black widow, green hornet, yellow jacket kits were always one of my favorite simple kits. right now I have a Red Chariot to restore.
