gtx6970 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Ok. I have a project idea. And I am thinking small block Ford power plant. Something late model EFI preferred. Seeing as most of my stash is older annuals and drag cars I don't have much to choose from. So what's avail in 1.25th scale
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Modular 2 and 4 cam engines (in Mustang kits) and the later "Coyote" engine are EFI (though I don't know which kits have which engines yet). The AMT Phantom Vickie has a nice modular 4-cam EFI engine too.
mike 51 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) The coming(back) 32 Ford ("woodie"') and the 90 Mustang(s) both have Fox era efi engines. Both are Revell. Edited July 12, 2015 by mike 51
Longbox55 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 The coming(back) 32 Ford ("woodie"') All of Revells '32 Fords, except for the Rat Roaster, have this engine.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Ok. I have a project idea. And I am thinking small block Ford power plant. Something late model EFI preferred. Hmmm...perhaps I misunderstood. Do you want the old " smallblock" Windsor pushrod V8 that ended its life as the 5.0 (302) / 351W EFI engine (phased out of the car line in '96 and gone from the truck / SUV platforms by 2001) or a late-model EFI engine of similar displacement? The pushrod Windsor is, of course, still available in various displacements as a crate engine from Ford Racing. So...you could go either way here. Kinda depends on what your definition of "late model" is. Edited July 13, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
mike 51 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) All of Revells '32 Fords, except for the Rat Roaster, have this engine. Yes but if I remember correctly...only the "woodie" has the efi (parts) that he asked about.....I believe the others have carbs. Edited July 13, 2015 by mike 51
Longbox55 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 No, they all have the EFI. Some of them do also have a 4bbl carbureted intake as well, and may not show the EFI on the box art. But it is present on the trees.
mike 51 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) I've got several of the roadsters (not the "roaster") and 3 windows but just one woodie. Oddly enough I've only noticed those parts in the woodie. I'll look again..... Not in the roadster or the 3 window. But it's in the 5 window kit..I missed the sedan when it was out so I've never seen what's in that box. So out of the 5 ..only 2 don't have it.(the 2 I knew best) Do you have the sedan kit? Hope all this helped the OP. Edited July 13, 2015 by mike 51
gtx6970 Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Ps. I would prefer to not use a standard pushrod engine I want something exotic and I think a modern ohc engine would be ideal (Ps it's going In a hotrod version of the 1957 Ford Del Rio)
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Ps. I would prefer to not use a standard pushrod engine I want something exotic and I think a modern ohc engine would be ideal (Ps it's going In a hotrod version of the 1957 Ford Del Rio) The 5.0 DOHC Coyote engine is probably what you'd want then. It's based on the "modular" engine architecture, and in real-life, the mounts and bellhousing bolt pattern are the same as earlier modular engines (and it's available from Ford as a crate engine, as well as junkyard sourcing, having been in production for 6 years or so). One of the late-model Mustang kits has a good Coyote, but I don't know which kit...yet. Here's some dimensions to see if it will fit your engine bay. If you can't make the numbers out, download it and blow it up in photoviewer. The resolution's good enough. Edited July 13, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy

At least we id'd the pushrod motors if anyone else was curious.
Force Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) All of Revells '32 Fords, except for the Rat Roaster, have this engine. The 302 / 5.0 engie yes...EFI no. I have several of the original issues of the 3 Window Coupe, the Speedwagon, the Roadster, the Tudor Sedan, the 5 Window Coupe and the Rat Roaster Roadster and I have looked in all of them, the only kits with the EFI setup are the Speedwagon Woody, and the 5 Window kits, No EFI in the 3 Window, the Roadster or the Tudor Sedan. I don't know what's included in later reissues after the original issue tho' as I don't have any of them. Edited July 13, 2015 by Force
Jon Haigwood Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Currently putting a 3.8 from a 91 Thunderbird SC into 32 3 window. The first engine was built with the super charger but with all the intake pipes it was too wide so I built another with the EFI intake from the 32 5 window kit.

Could have sworn I saw that EFI setup in the sedan and 3 window kits (I don't have the roadster). Just checked them, not there.
gtx6970 Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 What about something out of a 2014 Mustang GT as an example. ? it looks pretty cool
chunkypeanutbutter Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 The AMT/Ertl '90s Ford trucks have 5.0 EFI engines.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 What about something out of a 2014 Mustang GT as an example. ? it looks pretty cool That's a 5.0 Coyote engine (see post 10). 420 HP, I believe. The AMT/Ertl '90s Ford trucks have 5.0 EFI engines. Yes, but 5.0 pushrod Windsor engines.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Yes, but 5.0 pushrod Windsor engines. Well, it's a backup if he doesn't find anything else interesting.
