Back years ago they used them to drain engine oil into it. Run the cars up on a hoist and pull the plug and let it drain out. My Grand Father used to use them in the garage he worked at...

My dad had something similar to that that had a drum of grease inside and plugged into the air compressor for lubing zerk fittings. I think it was about a 15 gal drum and the round thing at the top had the regulator and the mechanism for pushing the grease through. If I remember right it worked like a plunger, the air forced the plunger down and the grease was forced through the hose. But I could be completely off base and it could be some sort of drain as Kerry says.

It looks like an air powered grease gun.   I used one that looks just like that for 35 years where I recently retired from.  The whole body lifts off the base & holds a 120 pound drum of chassis grease.
