Never had this happen until lately. I semi gloss my interiors with Testors lacquer semi gloss clear over Testors flat enamels. The clear coat feels sticky but does not leave finger prints. Why does it feel tacky. I know guys who gloss primer and it looks great. Has me wondering because i want to clear some Tamiya white primer with Testors wet look clear...

The only thing I can think of relates to the semi-gloss clear... I've had trouble with it, too, and it hasn't always turned out looking semi-gloss; perhaps because the aerosol has a tendency to spray too much material. The more you pile up, the shinier it gets. That even happens with Dull Cote. And the problem you're having certainly sounds like there is too much material there. I say give it a couple days to cure, and check it again. Are you sure the enamel was fully cured before you used the semi-gloss? You might also consider decanting and airbrushing it lightly the next time.

Hi Carl, do I read this correctly, the clear is a lacquer?  Real lacquer paint, or do Testors just call it such?  I thought real lacquer paints over enamels is a no-no.  Won't work.  I've tried it and had trouble, the piece was a mess.  I've learned from a pro how it can work though.

Have you used this Testors Clear Lacquer over glossy enamels before?  Was it OK?

Testors lacquers are very mild.

They act like a lacquer in the way they cure, but you can shoot them over almost anything.

I've been airbrushing Testor Dullcote lacquer over enamels for decades with no problems. And I thin it with cheap generic lacquer thinner, too.

The trick with Dullcote is to lay it on in a "dust" coat. As someone said, lay it on thick and you can have problems.

I always believed enamel over lacquer was the wrong combo..

I use to use dullcote and their semigloss but I always airbrush it. This gives you much more control. You control the shine with the way you spray. They spray well but both rub off if handled too much. I think Tamiya's Flat(TS-80) and Semi-Gloss(TS-79) spray better out of the can and are much more durable.

I have been thinking of trying Tamiya Dale. Thanks..
