I recently found an original , 1962-issue Revell 1956 F-100 at a local thrift store (!!) .

The box was opened , but most (probably 95%) of its contents were there ; the original pinstripe white wall tyres , and  the decals . The only thing missing is the instruction sheet ; the only flaw is 'tyre burn' on the Pontiac engine .

How different are the kit's part numbers between the 1962 original , and the recent "Big Daddy" Roth version ? I can print the instruction sheet from Revell's site if the individual part numbers are the same .

Some of the kit was retooled (bed, running boards, entire plated tree) but I never bothered to check to see if the parts were renumbered.  When the retooling was done for the 100% stock version in the late Nineties, the Pontiac engine was eliminated.  It has not been in any issue of the F-100 since then.

The '62 issue had custom headliner detail that was removed from the next issue (the mid-Seventies "Super Trick Pickup"), and also had clear red taillights.  The taillights were bagged with the tires, so unless that bag was opened and the parts separated, you will probably have two little clear red blobs.  I picked up an original kit for cheap on eBay, only to find the taillights still bagged with the tires.  Earlier this year, a parts box buy from a local automotive swap meet coughed up two unused taillights.

Thanks , Mark .

The tail lamps lenses are in almost perfect condition , thankfully . Some-one must have opened this kit some decades ago , and then decided to just toss it into their stash .

The headliner does look different versus later issues of the kit .

Oh , and that surfboard is just plain cool !

This Revell kit is more difficult to build than the AMT 53 F100. Much more fragile too. I am trying to match the 56 cab on the 53 but it is a real puzzle.
