Agent G Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) This is my take on a StuG III D from Sonderverband 288 in North Africa. Only four of these ever made it across the Mediterranean to Libya. One is currently being restored in England having been captured. It sat in a junk yard for decades. Danno Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Not exactly what I expected when I saw the thread title. Excellent rendition ~ once again ~ G! You be the TankKing!
cobraman Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I did not expect that either. Very nice work.
Harry P. Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Your tank models are just spectacular. I love the authentic look of the paint/dust/dirt/weathering. Do you rely on images you find online?
bismarck Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I remember seeing a similar Stug, not that same one, when i was stationed at Ft. Aberdeen proving ground. That tank museum was fantastic!!! Too bad they moved most of the tanks to Ft. Knox.... Beautiful build!! Edited September 21, 2015 by bismarck

SfanGoch Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Fantastic build, Wayne. The 8000/7008 camo is looking good and the weathering is just right without overdoing it. Almost every artifact at Knox and APG have been transferred to Ft. Benning. The Armor School also was relocated there.
bismarck Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) Ok. Yep, Your right. I got my bases mixed up. It was Benning. I used to use every spare second i could get crawling ALL OVER those tanks, guns, trucks, ect with a camera. Training kept me pretty busy, but i made time. I remember the King Tiger, Jagd Tiger, and my personal favorite, the Tiger 1. First of the breed. Edited September 21, 2015 by bismarck
Agent G Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Thank you gentlemen, you to Danno............................ Harry I have quite a few reference books and I do search online quite a bit. The key is knowing the time frame, location and history of the vehicle type itself. Sonderverband 288 (Special Group 288) had been formed and sat on the continent for a bit while the situation in Libya stabilized. These guys were the "specialists" in all things Mid-East, culture and language foremost. The idea was to send them in as the fighting wore down to engage the locals. Kind of like the Nazi version of a Green Beret. Win hearts and minds, Or burn their huts down. Anyway they sat too long and Allied air power sank the ships with most of these aboard in the Mediterranean. So you have four Sturmgeschuetz III D's in Libya as the British begin their push. They weren't active long enough to get beat up. G
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Wonderfully realistic finish and weathering. Man, nice work.
Chillyb1 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Every time you post one of these things I say to myself, "Man, I really got to get started on some of my military kits." And this time I'm really going to do so. I promise.
Roadrunner Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Very nice, G. I'm a big fan of the IIIG, but this D looks real cool.
