signmike Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I'll be using a snap Ford Raptor to make a Trophy Truck. I'll have to shorten the cab to make a small window in the rear quarter. Then I'll have to scrtbuild some fenders for it.The frame will be completely scratch and the engine will be a Nascar one modified to look modern. I think of using the shocks from a Monster truck but that's not sure yet. I already ordered tires and wheels for itHere the drawing I made to start with and some photos found on the web... http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrgrbfwfsbswrst...dmedia11-vi.jpg
signmike Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) Here it is, I started this project last night. The Raptor body was shortened and the fenders enlarged. That's a beginning... Edited October 8, 2015 by signmike
Petetrucker07 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Dammit! You beat me to it. I will be watching this come along. Nice start so far.
signmike Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 I saw what you are doing. It won't be the same as this one here will be a complete racing machine. I had plans to build one version like yours too. That will be something to whatch, take your time, as it is a nice subject...
Petetrucker07 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I have a Trophy Truck planed after I build the chase trucks and transporter. My TT will be something that will take time and lots of learning. Soldering will be involved that's for sure.
gatorincebu Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Interesting subject and approach. Looks like a lot of planning and scratch building coming up. Be Well Gator
signmike Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) lot of design work has been done. Now I have to plan what parts I'll used that I won't have to fabricated. Tonight I finished grinding the body and filling the void with melted styrene. That will take a lot more time to cure but to me it makes a stronger bond. I started working on the chassis. I made the chassis plate with styrene. Here a first mockup Edited October 9, 2015 by signmike

Petetrucker07 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Lookin great. You'll have this done in no time.
signmike Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Lookin great. You'll have this done in no time. Not sure, There still a lot to do on the chassis. I don't want it to look bare so will add some detailing to it when the basic shape is done. Theres also the interior paneling, the dash too, the racing seats... Not mentioning the fabrication of the suspension component. Plus an engine and a modified differential too. Then finishing and painting...I,m a long way from home...
Em_Jay Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 awesome! that body has so many uses even though its just a snap tite. did you use resin as a filler for the fenders?
signmike Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 I used melted styrene. I just put some off cuts from the sprue in a jar and fille it with liquid cement. When completely dried it is as strong as the body plastic. I had issues with epoxies and cyano glues before so this tiem i'm trying this method. So far it is good but takes a long time to cure.
signmike Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Here's some more update. The bodywork is almost done, widened fenders, shortened wheelbase and fille sunroof. There still some finishing to do on it. The chassis got some of the secong tier done. http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrgdrsgwtbwwsgsxrdsdbddwktrg,vi/bwggwqstkxgrgwswsssxrkgrqqbkd/7/620887/13832298/IMG_4235-vi.jpghttp://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrgdrsgswwdkqfqxrdsdbddwktrg,vi/gqtwkrffxgkbrfgwkxrkgkfkkgs/7/620887/13832298/IMG_4236-vi.jpghttp://media.fotki.com/1_p,rrgdrsgstdfdtqrxrdsdbddwktrg,vi/rtkwwfdgsxwsffrbtgdxbwgwtsrdb/7/620887/13832298/IMG_4237-vi.jpg
Petetrucker07 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Looks great so far. What size styrene rod are you using? I have some .062 that I was gonna use on my chase truck, but it looks a bit small.
signmike Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) I used .100 but should have used .080, those are a bit too large...yours would be good for a top fuel or a srint car Edited October 12, 2015 by signmike
afx Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 .100 = 2.5 scale inches.080 = 2 scale inches.062 = 1.5 scale inches
AUGIEDOGGIE Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 nice keep up the great work cant wait to see more
signmike Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Here is the completed chassis. It now needs some detailng, a lot of sanding and paint...
Petetrucker07 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Looks great dude. I'm lookin forward to seeing you tackle the interior.
signmike Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Thanks, Yes the interior will be a nightmare for me. Got to work on an engine first and it's positioning... then the interior paneling and dash. I'm a long way from home...
signmike Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) Her's the engine, checking if it fits, Looks OK...Will have to install it before doing the interior...Well I'll try to figure it out first...LOL Edited October 17, 2015 by signmike
Petetrucker07 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Looks pretty good to me. I'm still tracking down parts for my TT. I've got tires figured out, how I'm gonna about the suspension, but I'm still unsure about the motor and trans. Yours is lookin great. Very nice work gettin the engine location set back far enough.
