Mike 1017 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I would like some opinions on Italeri car kits. Specifically their Porsche 911 Turbo or the Porsche America Roadster. ThanksMike
Snake45 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I've built two Italeri cars, though not the ones you're interested in. I did their Willys MB Jeep and their Ferrari 250 GTO and both were easy, pleasurable, no-hassle builds that made fine-looking models. I'd have no reservations about buying another Italeri kit if they made something I wanted.

The only change i always make is the stance of the wheels. The wheesl are the last parts i glue, to give them a "good look". The "Bad-Boys" Turbo (964) is to high, the american Roadster the same kit.The 993 turbo looks like the wheels are to small, i used wheels from the Tiasan-993 from Tamiya.
sjordan2 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) My experience with Italeri cars, particularly classics, has been somewhat mixed. Some classics like the Rolls Maharajah and Mercedes 540K had good detail but 2-part plastic tires. Their Mercedes 300SL Cabrio is probably the best overall 300SL kit in both 1/24 and 1/16. However, they used its main body shell buck for the Gullwing versions without taking into account the differences in the shapes of the fenders and grille, so the Gullwing is a bit inaccurate. Mike 1017 Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Thanks for your input guts. Hobby Link has the 2 Porsche kits on clearance for $12.79 and $13.39. I think that is a pretty good price. On my Christmas list they go.
BVC500 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I have the America roadster and I bought a Fujimi Porsche 911 Turbo for parts, because the America roadster has a bunch of inaccurate parts, like the steering wheel, or misshapen parts, like the wheels.
Deathgoblin Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I've got the Testor's issue Porsche 911 Turbo and Lamborghini Diablo. They're both nice kits. They're not completely full detail, but do have opening hoods (it's more of an engine plate than an engine).
Zarana-X Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I've got a '33 Caddillac and a Fiat 131 rally car, both are nice kits.

Deathgoblin Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Could be. It's still marketed as an Italeri kit even now. There's one under construction on this thread:
Atmobil Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Many Italeri kits are reboxed or reissues of kits from other makers. I got a Mercedes S600 in a Revell AG box that is also available in a Italeri box and a Mercedes G-wagen and a Renault 5 that is both old Esci kits and I would not be surpriced to find a kit from a different maker in a Italeri box. Revell AG and Italeri seems to have a very close co-operation as many of their kits are available in both brands boxes and I belive they also have worked together with many other manufactures up trough the years.
