ERIK88 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) So upon purchasing a few acrylics , (createx and testors ) I found that createx are really great paints to use straight from the bottle! They didn't require any thinning, and are easy to apply on car bodies. The paint comes out somewhat flat , but once cleared looks like a beauty! Testors bottle acrylics on the other hand are not good for body's, but useful for small details. The paint doesn't lay down smooth, I think it's thinned too much of the factory. It doesn't stick like createx, createx has a thicker consistency. Luckily enough thick viscosity to not have to thin and dry every stage .i recommend createx wicked color acrylics ! Jon Haigwood Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I have lots of AutoAir (Createx) paint left over from years ago when I was attempting to paint motorcycle tanks. I use them a lot. My only problem with them that if you try to clear over them with Future the surface is rough and it takes a lot of coats to get a smooth finish.
sjordan2 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) Createx is great for making vinyl or leather surfaces. Edited October 11, 2015 by sjordan2
ERIK88 Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Well createx came out shiny and smooth with krylon acrylic clear. I did a few test shots with diff colors and it came out looking pretty neat. It's def a nice paint for custom building.
Jon Haigwood Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I now use PlastiKote acrylic lacquer clear with no problems and have used other clears as well
AzTom Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 This has been talked about down in the "Modeling How-Tos" a few times. You don't mention what line of Testors acrylics you are comparing to. Testors Aztec line is every bit as nice as the Createx paints are. I thought the metallic's went on more even than the Createx did. Like the others are saying, I have used many different clear coats over them.
Skip Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I've used used the Createx, Wicked Colors, Autoair and a few other brands of acrylics through airbrush's for successfully some time. Someone gave me some of the Aztek paints a while back I used them once and ended up gifting them to another airbrush artist friend. I thought that they were on the thin side also, requiring changes to air pressure and technique to lay down correctly. The other issue I had was that the colors were overly opaque even laying them down over white; in defense of the Aztek paint I was given, I have no idea right now whether they were opaque colors or not. They just didn't work for the project that I was doing at the time. You really owe it to yourself to learn the how and whys of any particular paint system you intend to use. Createx makes a great tutorial DVD (you can pick up at Hobby Lobby right with the paint) as do others, look up Airbrush Action, Createx, Wicked colors... and airbrushing on You Tube. There are lots of airbrush and custom painters out there who are willing to share their hard gained knowledge about successfully using Acrylics, Enamels, Lacquers and any other paint systems you can think of. Good thing is that it's not like it used to be where Custom Painters did everything in secret, never sharing anything about their techniques, if they did chances they were leaving out some critical step. You almost literally had to pay to get any information!
