Harry Joy Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Saw it for sale at my local hobby shop today.
RancheroSteve Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Alright! I just got home not long ago, and I picked up at our club meeting the Deora! I've cracked open the kit, and I'm VERY IMPRESSED by what I see! Those tires are some of the nicest I've seen come from Round 2! I also give kudos to them for including what looks to be nice color pics of what the truck looks like today. The "regular" and tinted glass for the kit are nice pluses, and everything seems to be molded well for what is quite old tooling. Looking through the kit, the center console is conspicuous by its absence------although I don't think the original issue ever included this. Hmmmm............now to figure out how to tackle that opening lower door and support "beam" down the road. I've already built two Deoras and have several boxes full of complete and partial Deoras - including an original - so I probably won't be buying this one, but I'd be interested to see a detailed "what's in the box". Glad to see in back in a nice presentation with the original parts and artwork, as well as the new tires. That's right, Bill - the Deora kit has never had a center console, but it does have an overhead console. The interior is one of the many inaccuracies of the kit, which leads me to speculate that the kit was probably tooled up before much of the real car was finished, perhaps due to deadline/promotional pressures. Just guessing here. Having said that, it's a cool vintage kit of an iconic custom - just nowhere near 100% accurate out of the box. I know it's not your usual subject matter Bill, but I'd love to see what you could do with this one!
unclescott58 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 OK Kats! I just got my Deora in the mail, within the last half hour. I opened the box, and all I can say is Wow! It was everything I was hoping for! I love the 12-page booklet. Where they give Tim Boyd some credit for helping putting it together. As normal, the modest Mr. Boyd, has not mentioned this. I love pad printed tires. Lovely! I'm very glad to see the original tonneau cover back in the box. And I love decals! Especially the woodgrain ones for not only the tonneau and bubble top, but the taillight panel too. I believe this is the first time that correct feature has ever been offered with this kit.The steering wheel has also surprised me. I've always assumed the kit had the wrong steering wheel in it. But, the photos in the booklet show the vehicle being built with that steering wheel in mind. As noted in the instructions and on the box sides, it's a "Covico" steering wheel. I don't know when the cut up Toronado steering wheel appeared in its place. But, since the truck was obviously originally set to go with the Covico wheel, and it looks better besides, I'm building mine with that steering wheel. There are other things not correct in the model vs. the real truck. But, with the tonneau cover back and the woodgrain decal for the taillight panel, it looks close enough for me. I'm happy! Thanks again Round 2. And thanks to Tim Boyd for his contributions.
