aurfalien Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) Hi, The history of this little car is very interesting. After watching Bullitt, Chaparral approached Steve McQueen to enhance its motor sports endeavors. Steve, having a fondness for Mustangs opted for a modified Ford V8, a 9.5ltr titanium block and head CanAm prototype engine. Ford's upper management figured because the Chevys were dominating the CanAm series with their distributor being in the back, so they decided to move theirs to the rear as well. Sunoco was going to be a sponsor but had dropped out last minute. Sadly the project was scrapped because the high mounted wing was outlawed. This was meant to be a further down the line project and not my 4th model (I'll stop counting after this as I'm sure some may be annoyed already). I learned a ton and it was one of those things I could have kept going with. Noodling here and there, changing this and that etc... but I wanted to finish her. My original plan was to use Sunoco decals but the ones I got many moons ago were pi$$ poor, bad resolution etc... I was going to bring em into Photoshop for some clean up etc but wanted to be done today. I'm looking forward in doing a more simpler model, one appropriate for my experience. So I've chosen a Round2 Opel GT 3 in 1 reissue which looks fun as hell. PS In terms of the orange peel, i was affraid of handling the body too much due to my recent experiences with it. So i didn't do much polishing. This is basically how she looked after paint and no treatment. I'm sure my fears were psychological but still I thought she'd fall appart etc... Jeremy Jon Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Fantastic build Brian, and very lovely car, so well done, bravo!!
aurfalien Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) Wow, thank you guys!I'm very appreciative.I may be getting a hold of proper Sunoco decals so if thats the case, I'll strip the decals and rid the orange peel.Get her nice and shiny as the paint job has kinda been buggin me. Its like I went 90% with this project instead of 110%. Edited October 26, 2015 by aurfalien

XJ6 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I have always been a Fan of the Can Am Cars and you have done a fine job representing one very nicely done ??
aurfalien Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 Wow thanks guys. I'm stoked! While I'd like to redo the paint, its going to wait a bit. I need to move on and learn more if I'm to understand the basics. It truly is accumulating builds under ones belt as each build teaches that much more.

It seems like it should have more of covering in the rear deck and definitely needs a roll bar.
aurfalien Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Ahh, a roll bar is very cool, thanks man. I'll look at some pics of similar cars to add more fromage back tere.Yes I feel this will be on going. Edited October 29, 2015 by aurfalien
