gino Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 wow that's turning out sweet ! I really like it, great work !
landman Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Cut off the arched top of the grille & attached it to the underside of the hood lip. Added a piece of styrene to make it straight. Then added a piece of half-round to make a "nose".I apologize for the poor photos, when I realized they were out of focus, it was too late. Added putty and will shape later. Used the kit's exhaust bracket and a piece of channel to adapt to this one. There was only one running board so I made a second one. landman Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) The seats are high back & contoured, not likely for this truck. So I toned them down a bit. Worked at smoothing the new hood lip. Then drilled some pilot holes though the fender into the grille for locating purposes once the hood is cut off. Started scribing away. landman Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Cleaned up bumper and added mesh. Fitted Paystar steering column to dash. Spent a LOT of time filing, sanding, tweaking, trial fitting the tub to the body. All my cab level checks had been done without the side panels in place. Now with them there, the interior fits lower inside the cab which has for effect to make the cab look very high. I've almost got it licked. One more hour of sanding....etc. Finished cutting off the hood. Couldn't see myself hiding that motor. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
Kenny B Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Looking good. I hear you on the fill sand fill again sand again.........
landman Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Looks like the easy stuff is over with. Added hooks to bumper. Added thin strips to the inner fenders to help keep the hood centered. Added pins to the grille to help position it. Finished the interior Added the back panel. Made a pattern for the windshield. Cut one out of acetate and fought a major battle trying to get it in there. The trick is to hold it in position while gluing it. I think I'll have to invent some special crooked clamps. Gave up in disgust after a while. Tried the one out of my Cameo kit which should fit in theory. However it tells you exactly by how much the resin cab is too wide. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
landman Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Added spacers to the frame and mounted deck. It has to clear the fenders but remain shy of the fifth wheel. Added the running boards and battery boxes/steps Back of cab is getting close. The battle with the windshield is still going on. I'm attempting Mr. Obsessive's tip of glueing strips to the inside of the cab to act as "keys". Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
landman Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Ta-Dahhhhhh! I managed to get it to stay in there with the help of clamps. This way, once it is painted I can get that in there with a minimum of handling and stay there long enough for the adhesive to set. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
Superpeterbilt Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 This is coming along nice Pat. Nice mods to the hood. I think at this point, now that its all cut apart, I would just scratch a new grill. Now that youve pointed out the flaws, that means I will be making these changes on my cab.
landman Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 Thanks Terry. And here I thought I was ready for paint.
landman Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) OK Terry, I compromise. While I don't have it in me to scratch up a complete grille I modified this one. I added a valance at the bottom to make it look taller, I added a couple rows of bars on the valance and I added flat stock to the bars on the rad shutter portion to make them look more like louvers. To look right, this cab has to be sectioned longitudinally to make it narrower. Jigged up absolutely straight and with a laser level, one could draw the lines straight enough to do this. But not me, not now. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
Superpeterbilt Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 That looks great Pat. Much better. I wasn't trying to be a pain, its just the hood looks so much better after you modified it. After you pointed out the grill, it kinda stuck out. The work your doing is great, and Im sure youll take great pride in this build when its done. Im sure it will bring back some memories of the real truck.
landman Posted November 22, 2015 Author Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) Other than mudflaps, the chassis is pretty well done. Ready to receive the body.. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
gatorincebu Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Pat, That chassis really looks good. You are doing some really nice work on this project! Be Well Gator

landman Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Come on man, i know its orange, what color orange specifically... Sorry Sam, couldn't help it.
guitarsam326 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Geez i didnt kknow which ine of us was losin it! Lol! I was askin cuz it looked like model master go mango which is what i used on my paystar. Its very easy to weather and it looks great with a light wash.
landman Posted November 26, 2015 Author Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) Made some mudflaps and used my new fancy equal lenght cutting jig to cut the t-bars. While the paint is drying on the cab, I amused myself detailing the Paystar's engine using a Ken Smith how-to article. The blotchy blue was just a paint test. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
landman Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) The V-800 is done. Still need to make a stand. Working on the cab. Painted window "rubbers, added a few details & decals. Edited January 17, 2021 by landman
