Mattblack Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 My Mum bought this kit as a present for me a while ago, and I wanted to do something a little 'creative' with it. I thought it would make a good candidate for a little scrapyard diorama, circa. the mid 70's.. The 'mud' is household filler mixed with sand and sawdust and the fence is model railway scenery.
bbowser Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I like it, well done. Wish the subject was available in 1/24 - 1/25.
Tom Geiger Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Love your Herald! Those old Airfix kits had all the detail of a good 1/25 scale kit back then!My father was in the US Army so I lived in Germany during a lot of my childhood modeling years. US kits weren't available there, but those Airfix 1/32 cars were! I built a bunch of them as a kid, including the double decker bus. When I started building again as an adult about 25 years ago, I'd occasionally find one of the Airfix bag kits in a vendors junk box at a show for cheap, like a dollar! I'd grab every one I saw! Then eBay hit, and everyone in the US wised up to their value. No more cheap 1/32s! Edited November 10, 2015 by Tom Geiger
HotRodaSaurus Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 (edited) Really sweet diorama. Love these 1/32 and some are often re released such as the Herald and Escort. Most popular are the Aston DB5 and Jaguar E Type. For some reason though Airfix picked on something to really get the British car enthusiasts eager to spend their money on........ I don't think , such as the Morris Marina and Austin Maxi though these two and the Bond Bug are probably the most sought after. Probably the most exciting made were the Jaguar 420, Mercedes Pagoda, Beach Buggy, Ford Capri and Zodiac plus many others This is my Zodiac, built from an original kit not that long ago. Tom Geiger Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Three I've had since I was a kid are the Ford Model T (a bag kit) which was never built. I have a 1966 or so Mercedes SL and first generation Capri that I built as a kid and need redoing. I also have the 1910 double decker bus and 1914 Dennis fire engine. Those are amazing kits for 1/32 scaleI have a few more I bought in the last 20 years that escape me right now, and I don't want to go digging!
PatW Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Superb Barry, a mate of mine from school had one in the day. That's the 70's!
