Brent Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I love doing these cars inbetween scratch build projects. Gives a guy a litle break and they just look so cool.
fordsixty Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 wow..... what beautiful pair of flounders. they both look really cool. you are right. simple kits that, with a little detailing, turn out great.
CAL Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Nice, I love the old IMSA GTP cars. I need to build a few of these. I have a stack of them.
Nick F40 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Yeah, what Chris said! I LOVE these cars, I'd rather watch these than some of the racecars nowasays. Fantastic pair you got. I still love that Toyota Eagle. Doesn't HPI make cars like this, I mean 1:43 scale and detailed and such?
Brendan Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Excellent job on the Hasegawa kits. Wish more companies would make kits of these prototypes. I still love that Toyota Eagle. That's not a Toyota Eagle. It is a Tom's Toyota (I believe either an 86C or 87C). Guerney ran those cars for I believe two races. The Eagles were not ready yet.

Tamiya makes the stapples Jag LM9 956/962 Mazda 787 Sauber Mercs Toyota 88C Then a few Hase Jag LM8 962s I am wondering about the Revell AG Sauber Merc ?
ismaelg Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Great job on both! Both are super cool! I love IMSA. Those were the "Cars of Tomorrow" back then. I hope to finish my GTP soon.... Thanks,
Brendan Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Tamiya makes the stapples Jag LM9 956/962 Mazda 787 Sauber Mercs Toyota 88C Then a few Hase Jag LM8 962s I am wondering about the Revell AG Sauber Merc ? I've built all those in several versions. I was thinking more of the other cars that were racing back then. Like Fabcar, Lola, Spice, etc. As for Revell, it's a rehash of the Hasegawa kit. So is the 962.
Brent Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 Thanks guys. Yah Hasegawa does make a nice kit for sure. I was fortunate enough to find a Hasegawa with white metal parts included Collector hi grade series. And another neat one I found as well (not a hasegawa). I to be honest am not sure if they are ran in the same series.
Dave Van Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Great work on the GTP's.........how about a GTO IMSA car...... 1989 Nissan IMSA 300ZX Resin curbside kit.
Nick F40 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 (edited) That 300ZX is sick, I love thoase things, I have an HO slot car like that. Sorry Brendan, I noticed I was wrong when I posted that, hey at least I know more about these cars than most kids my age. That car was in a game, I believe that was Tom's 86C. Brendan Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I think wasn't Fabcar building 962s for Porsche back then? Yes, Fabcar built some 962's but I was thinking of the light versions that ran against Spice. And the ones that were before the 962's.
Brendan Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Is that bottom one one of the Domes? Yes, the one on the bottom is a Dome Zero. It's a decent kit. Not a lot of detail in the interior. There were two versions of this kit available, one with an engine and one without. The engine was a Ford Cosworth Formula 1.
CAL Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Yes, Fabcar built some 962's but I was thinking of the light versions that ran against Spice. And the ones that were before the 962's. Camel Light cars? That would be cool.
curt raitz Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 The Can Am series was one of my favorite auto racing genres. I always wanted to build a model of the Frisbee 'Little Al' drove...did build a 43rd scale white metal model of the Frisbee Jacques Villenueve's uncle drove and how 'bout the RC Cola Special Lola Jackie Stewart raced? really dating myself, cuz I actually saw these cars race at Laguna Seca many years ago... thanx for bringing back good memories
simonr Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Man, beautifull work on these all time classic racers. I have the yellow Porsche in my to do soon list. Again, nice work! Simón P. Rivera Torres
IMSANUT Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I wish the pictures were still up..... I saw many an IMSA race in person, and have been collecting as many as is possible to build. There are more 962 variants than you'd imagine that can be done with available decals and resin bodies. Let us not also forget the Mustang GTP offered by Monogram. It was accurate ONLY for the 7 11 version. I did an article for MRRN years ago to correct the Motorcraft kit to the version that won it's first race at Road America. The Ford Probe and BMW March were bodied by Tamiya, and Quick Skins did the Probe as a curbside kit. The Porsche 996 spyder was roughly done by Umi, and is expected to be released in two versions soon. Formula Canada did a great Lola kit and a poor March kit. The later is due to be redone by the same company that'll be doing the 996. Renaissance did the Group 44 Jag, and the Toyota Eagle Nk III has been done as well as the TWR Jaguar XJR 14, and the Nissan ZX. The Spice Chassis is sadly missing from the mix as is the second Eagle, the Mazda GTP and the Intrepid. Gurney ran the Toyota Toms Group C car for almost an entire season starting at Daytona.
