my80malibu Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 This question is about replicating Gold Plating. I have an Eldon Outhouse kit with some Good plating but not real Good plating. I would like to strip it off and get it cleaned up. I thought of painting it with Gold paint as a base, then following with some transparent yellow, or orange. I wanted to know if any others have done this before.

Just kind of lost interest in 2-step paint jobs.
disabled modeler Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I too would like to know how to do something that replicates gold color plating look....I have a project of my own crazy show rod like a Tom Daniels one that needs it.
John Pol Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 you could use clear yellow over the chrome piece
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Duplicolor makes a "clear yellow" for replicating anodizing. Over the right base, it can be very effective.
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Alclad also makes a gold.Won't exactly look like plating, but other than having parts replated, there probably aren't many options. Steve
