Kmb0319 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 So, I picked up the Donnie Allison Mercury, as the Cyclone is one of my all-time favorite Nascar rides. But, things were pretty tight when I bought the kit, and I didn't have the $ to invest in aftermarket tires/wheels and a decal set to make this into another vehicle, so it got tabled. I decided to go ahead and leave it as the Wood Brothers car with the kit decals, as Mike's was out of most the sets for other vehicles I would have built. I got into some other non-Nascar builds, so this sat for 4-5 months in the basement, and by the time I got to it, I had lost some of my mojo about it. Oh well.... I went ahead and finished it OOB, and while this simple MPC chassis is not the best, I was happier than I thought with the end result. Testors Classic White and a One-Coat lacquer (forget the color name), PPP tires/wheels. If they get some other decals for this back in stock, I might build another with a Monogram or AMT chassis/engine that has more detail, but this will do for now.
Sledsel Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Looks good. I have one that is being made to a street car, but want another for a Nascar build.FYI, the Monogram Thunderbird chassis fits well, but needs lengthened.
madhorseman Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 A really nice looking nostalgic build. I'm very partial to the Allison's, Davey was my favorite driver.

I always liked this cars looks my dad owned a Cyclone GT once fell in love with its looks and performance.
bogger44 Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Nice work, Kevin, thanks for sharing. Seeing your's I might just go with the chassis it comes with instead of swapping it out when I get to building mine.
Sledsel Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Revell could easily make a stock one using the 70 Torino parts. They would need the body, bumpers, rear glass. Different dash, but the Torino is really close

The chassis is not bad, the Revell Nascar chassis has rear coil springs, where the actual Cyclone race cars still used the leafs
disabled modeler Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I have the old MPC kit of this one still sealed but its the Nascar version only and a build up of it from my childhood days. The factory stock version build up I have been trying to restore will end up as a replica of my dads old car someday. Awesome work on it...my build up is no where as nice I did back then..LOL...
MarkJ Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Beautiful build. I also purchased this kit and hope to do Wendell Scott's last ride.
Kmb0319 Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Mark, first of all, thanks! Second, you mention doing Wendell's car... I had two thoughts for this. One was DW's rookie car (Terminal Transport) and the other was a Wendell tribute using the Cyclone but mixing in the light blue from his Galaxies. Still want to try that one.
