Kit Basher Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) I'm getting ready to start the Moebius '56 300B. I want to do the engine stock, but haven't found any good images of the engine colors. Most have the block, heads, oil pan, and intake manifold in gray, with gold valve covers and air cleaner. Is this correct? How about the transmission: iron, or block color paint? Thanks! Edited December 30, 2015 by Kit Basher
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) Bock, pan, heads and intake manifold are a silver-gray that probably looks gray in many photos. You're right about the gold air filter housing and rocket covers. The plug-wire covers on the rocker covers are also black. The '54 Chrysler brochure shows the trans painted the same color as the engine. '56... Edited December 30, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
Kit Basher Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks, Bill! That's the best pic I've seen so far. Also, thanks for calling out the plug wire covers as black. In some images they look like chrome.
Art Anderson Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Chrysler engines back then were painted silver, as in aluminum paint, with metallic gold valve covers and aircleaners. As Bill stated, the sheet metal covers over the plug leads were gloss black.Art
Kit Basher Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks, Art, and thanks for your contribution to developing this kit. It looks like it's gonna be a good one.
gtx6970 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 When I did the 55 I built last year. I think I used Krylon dull aluminum for the engine. and Duplicolor cast iron for the trans A good friend of mine has a nice unrestored 1955 C300 so I used it for reference,,and gave him the model once it was done
Kit Basher Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks, Bill. Did you get a look at the underside of your friend's car? I have not found any images of that. I'm thinking red oxide primer and black frame rails. Does that sound right?
gtx6970 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) his is red on the bottom of the body. black suspension pieces and chassis . Its 60 years old and is dirty but very solid This is his actual car and the model. You are gonna really like the kit. Its probably my favorite kit I've built in a long time. Kit Basher Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks, Bill. Your friend sure is lucky to have that car. Not only valuable but cool!
gtx6970 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 He has owned it since about 1978 or 79. and if I remember right he only paid something like $3000 for it then.So if you need something let me know. it might take me a week or so to get it, but can get pictures of about anything on the car. Underneath pics are tough ,,,as he doesnt own a lift to raise it up When I gave him the build, he said the kit has the rear defrostor on the rear pkg tray shelf ,,,which is a pretty rare option on the actual car ( his car doest have it)Something I thought was odd , is an outside rear view mirror was not even an avail option on the 1/1 cars. . Same thing for backup lights
Kit Basher Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 Thanks for the offer, Bill. I'll let you know if I need more info. I didn't see your pictures earlier, the car and your model both look great!
