10thumbs Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 What do you mean "back to sanding"? Are you changing the color? Looks like a great paint job to me.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 What do you mean "back to sanding"? Are you changing the color? Looks like a great paint job to me.Thanks Michael. I'm just trying to get it slick before I put some clear on it. I also have a couple of places to fix. Being an old resin cast, it has taken a lot of work, and it's still not going to be perfect. It will probably get one more coat of yellow before it gets cleared. It's been drying for a week, but it doesn't look like I'll get much done this week.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 Thanks for the comments. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss the July update. No progress this month so far, and it's looking like there's not going to be.
RandyEarle Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Any updates on this build? I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Any updates on this build? I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.I haven't touched it since the first part of June. I hope to get back on it this week though.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 31, 2016 Author Posted August 31, 2016 I'm just checking in for August. I have not touched the Mack since June. It has been a very busy summer. I hope to catch up soon and get back to finishing this thing. I'm still in the contest for now.
Mopar - D Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Brian I hope your September allows you time to finish your Mack. It's coming along great !
Tesla Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I certainly hope you find the time to complete this project!
10thumbs Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 No sweat Brian, when you have time and patience, new progress will come along automatically. I'll be looking for sure.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Thanks for the comments guys!Well today was the day to start again. I knew that it was too humid to paint lacquer, but I risked it anyway since I haven't worked on it in two months. I'm sure that you can guess how it turned out.Back to the drawing board. The cab looks terrible! I'm now considering a different color too.
guitarsam326 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 thats a real stinker on the paint Brian, what color are you thinking? i think a black or white cab would look nice also.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 Thanks Sam! I knew better, but with very little time lately I decided to try.I'm leaning towards black as well. I'm not really wanting to strip it, because first it's resin, and also I have a lot of body work involved in it already. The problem is that I used Testors Lacquer and it is quite a bit softer than other paints, especially other lacquers. So, if I don't get all of the yellow off, I have to get a paint that won't react with the yellow. I'm to the point right now that I want to just put it in a box and forget it, but I don't like starting a project and getting this far and not finishing. Oh well!?!
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Well after dropping the cab and having to repair a small fracture, not to mention a paint disaster, I'm back on track. I've been sanding, and sanding, and sanding some more. It's looking a lot better though. All of the bumps in the picture is just paint dust.
Tesla Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Brian, That's unfortunate about the paint.. Do you think the cab paint could be safely removed soaking in Purple Power? I've used it with resin parts without any problems.
10thumbs Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Brian, sad news about the paint. For me the paint job is still the biggest unknown factor, will it work, or not?I'd suggest at the current stage of progress, just redo the paint, same color. The frame and all of the parts there are done, and have color. My last project had a paint job that kicked my butt good, so bad that I lost interest in finishing the build, even though it was as good as done. You've had a pause now, I hope for you the road gets smooth again.
gatorincebu Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 now that you have the cab repaired and sanded. I say go with the same color and git r dun !! lol Be Well Gator
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Could it be that I have finally gotten some paint on this cab to stay??? It is a combination of jet black with some pearl black mixed in and cleared with some 15 year old Testors clear coat. It's not 100% perfect, but it's going to be good enough for me.
