85 Mustang SVO

While taking time to allow paint to dry and what not on my 58 Belevedere my wife bought me a 85 Mustang SVO.  Thing is I had a 86 Mustang SVO years ago.  So this one is pretty much going to be a stock build with a charcoal grey interior and silver body.

I need to fix two low spots on the hood but I started assembling the kit anyway(I stil need to get some plastic filler to fill in the hood).

Photo's of the engine and interior, The kit called for a few colors different then I remember my SVO having some things like the engine the kit called for a satin black yet mine and another I found on the internet had blue engines, the kit came with a chrome rocker cover the real car it is black.  So my engine is blue with a white oil filter which would be the correct color for a Motorcraft FL-1 filter.  The kit calls for a satin black interior my car had a gray interior and that is how I'm building it.

Looks great!

I also had one of these, but it was white. Car got me into a lot of trouble. Man was it quick. I miss it, one of the ones I should have held onto. The block on mine was Satin black. It was a 85 model.

Plan too Matt.  Thanks guys.  For the engine as I said mine was a 86 and the other I found was a 86 I did find a photo of a 84 's engine and it was black.

I miss my 86 too and I will buy another one day even if I have to sell my current 93

All U.S. Fords from 82 on had either grey or black engines. 81/early 82 was the end of "Ford blue" engines. That said, the most common rattle can applied to a Ford was blue so when a previous owner painted them they almost always went to blue....and usually the wrong shade! I had one of the first 84 SVO (charcoal grey with grey cloth) when I was a dealer.

Nice seeing an SVO build and good job! I have a real 1985 SVO that I rescued a few years ago. (Http://www.protowrxs.com/Svo if you're interested) Fun car for sure!

I also have a couple kits to build yet but am bummed in that they appear to have the correct 84/85 engine with the inline intake but only include the 85.5 and 86 aero headlights instead of the full bulb versions. Guess I need to just figure out how to make it right.

Anyhow, will be following along with your build and looking for ideas for mine.

Thanks Stephen, I'll check it out for sure. I really do miss my 86 SVO a lot. Especially after smoking a GT or a IROC back in the day with a 4 cylinder.

Sprayed the body today, not to let the paint cure then paint the lower sectionsection of the rocker panels and lower air deflectors flat black.

Bottom pic is my real 93 after it came home from the body shop.

Thanks guys i appreciate the positive comments.

Dark sage was a single year color option 85 only.

Its funny the kit uses the 84/85 exhaust with single tailpipes yet the 85.5/86 aero nose
