kelson Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Hello, this is my next project a restoration that I bought off ebay 7-8 years ago, with the Modelhaus closing their doors next year it got me hunting down my builtups to order parts. This car was a glue/paint bomb, painted with a can of gloss black paint or 2,it soaked in CSC for 2 or more weeks and even then some paint wouldn't come off,so I used Easy-off and it stripped nicely.
kelson Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 The plan is to paint it factory Maroon, with a vinyl roof,i'm thinking the whole body in maroon will be to much, but I can't find any good pictures of the vinyl roof molding. So if anyone knows of a good site a link or such would be appreciated.
kelson Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) As you can see in some of the pics a lot of glue damage,i've spent about 2 weeks just sanding and filing parts and cutting pieces of sprue to make attachments points for some parts just to get it to this point. kelson Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) The exhaust looks rough, but the glass packs were so heavily glued on I had to use my Moto to grind them off and sanding off the glue spots, same with the driveshaft. Edited February 26, 2016 by kelson
kelson Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Here are the rest of the parts, cleaned up and ready for primer, hopefully can start primer and painting this weekend
kelson Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Unfortuneately I can't save the front axles, I tried using glue de-bonder with no luck,so I scratchbuilt a couple and will grind the old ones off. Edited February 26, 2016 by kelson
CometMan Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Wow! Those cars are beautiful, and that kit doesn't come around too often! Good luck saving it Curtis I'll be watching your progress!
hedotwo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Same here... watching your progress on this one! This kit has been on my want list for some time.
Speedfreak Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Cool looking car Curtis. I've been down this road with a kit in similar condition, it can be done.
espo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Your doing a great save here. The color choice will really show off the body lines. I'm not sure that a vinyl roof would help the look, it would chop off the flow of the roof where it would meet the trunk. If you're going for the showroom look I think that Ford offered the GT type stripes, that you would usually see on a Torino, on the full size Fords. This may give you an option if you think the body really needs it.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 This is going to be a nice one, for sure!! A lot of bomb defusing already done!!

kelson Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 Ok everyone,i'm back with a small update, there was still a lot of putty and sanding i overlooked, the wheels have been painted flat black i used a black/steel mix for the disc and painted the calipers steel, they were already glued together so i detailed them as best as i could:
kelson Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 Ths chassis is painted, but looking online i think I've painted it wrong:
kelson Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 The exhaust is painted,i used gloss aluminum on the exhaust and cast aluminum on the mufflers, the front and rear coil springs were painted semi-gloss black with steel used on the springs,i couldn't save one of the front springs so i took one from a 69'galaxie which doesn't look a lot different.
kelson Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 I have the engine painted ford blue, but it looks lighter in the pic for some reason and some of the other engine parts painted as well
kelson Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 I have a question, what color is the air cleaner painted?i can't seem to find any pics and also the color of the oil pan?thanks for looking in and any helpful hints and comments are appreciated.
louie Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Wow, you got everything really nice and clean. I have never had good luck with stripping paint off of models. Looking really good and I love the 68 Galaxie. Thank you. Jeff
Ron Hamilton Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I like where this one is going. I had to sell off my un-built kit a few years ago, but I replaced it with a Missing Link Resin '68 LTD 4 Door Hardtop, which I have some plans for. It will be quite a while before I get to it. As a matter of fact Missing Link has some very nice front and rear bumpers in resin, with a very nice chrome plating at a reasonable price, as well as the '68-69 Ford 5-spoke sport wheel covers, which would look fantastic on this car..
62rebel Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 the air cleaner and oil pan would be the same Ford blue as the block.
