GearUpJammer Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Well,it's been slow going but finally making a little bit of progress.Learned from my mistakes on my White Western Star and found out Easy Off in the yellow can is the best dechromer(and boy there's a lot of chrome on this kit).Anyway,I still turn to this forum for inspiration and expertise!
gino Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 looks good vic ! I have this kit in the stash awaiting bench time.
gatorincebu Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Vic, You have a good start on this one. Your chassis looks good. I agree with you about the excessive amount of chrome parts in this kit. Be Well Gator
Truck parts Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Look's like your off to a great start , I will be following as you go on
kilrathy10 Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Looking good, Man....Frame looks great........I like Easy Off for stripping chrome, too.....It's almost instantaneous.....I spray some in a container, seal it, and in about 5 minutes, the chrome is GONE....Great stuff.....
GearUpJammer Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 A little bit of progress, cab primed and up on its wheels.
Canso65 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Looks great Vic. I like these trucks.I have used bleach with good results for stripping chrome.
gino Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 lookin good vic ! those two hole drive wheels look great !
Goodwrench3 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Hi --I'm assuming you are using KJ's 2-hole drive wheels ?I'm working on a project with them -- my first time with resin wheels. Can I ask how you attached them ?With the older AMT kits, that metal rod they use with the kit hubs is about half the diameter of the axle housings, so there is a ton of slop. Plus, its way smaller than the hole in the Double Take hub. Thanks for the help.
BigBad Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 You could use some aluminum tubing as a sleeve to fit over the metal axle in the hub... I did that before and works nicely. You can find those at the hobby shop.
GearUpJammer Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 Thanks for the comments guys!Yes Jeff, they are KJ's wheels. It's been a little while since I've worked on the truck but as I recall the fit was pretty good.I don't recall anything out of the ordinary. If anything I may have used a dab of super glue.Good luck with your project!
gatorincebu Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Looking real good thus far! For the replacement axle I would use brass rod as it is stronger I think than the aluminum tube. Be Well Gator

GearUpJammer Posted April 23, 2016 Author Posted April 23, 2016 Just a little bit to report.Painted the engine and stuck it in the frame for a test fit.
