RancheroSteve Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) Nothing too fancy here - just doing a (mostly) out of the box build of the Accurate Miniatures kit. I will be using the HRM upper control arms and headers. Yes - I filled the slots on the bottom of the frame: An enjoyable build so far - more soon. Edited August 17, 2016 by RancheroSteve
Jhedir6 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Nice start Steve. I've got one of these I started along time ago that needs attention. I just picked up the upper A arms and headers from HRM too recently, how's the fit? I'll be watching this one.David
MrObsessive Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) I'll be tuning in as well! One of my favorite Corvette racers!I'm curious how Harold's parts will fit this one too......I've got a couple of these as well as his rare resin "roadster" transkit that I won many years ago at NNL East. afx Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I plan on building one of these eventually as well. Very interested in your progress Steve.
RancheroSteve Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Thanks guys. The upper arms fit just fine and are much more delicate than the kit items. I don't have any good reference photos, so I'm only assuming they're more prototypically accurate. Mine also came with a good set of instructions on how to install them and also how to lower the front ride height. I haven't gotten to the headers yet, but they are supposedly a much better fit than the kit parts.

I'd like to see them. ThanksDavid

Jhedir6 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 cool, thanks very much. I did not get that sheet with my order.David
65slotcar Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 thanks for posting instructions, will have to try out on my next grand sport build.
Lizard Racing Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Good work! I built the Delmo Johnson (Sebring #3) version. But I am going to convert it to the Jim Hall/Roger Penske version. This car actually won a major race (Nassau '64).For anyone interested in GS Corvettes, I would recommend the book Corvette Grand Sport by Lowell Paddock and Dave Friedman.
65slotcar Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 this is a great kit. and can be made into many different versions . i have the #2 car built also. and yes that is a good book for reference.

RancheroSteve Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Great reference source, I have a copy in my library.Looks like it's out of print and going for more dollars than I have laying around. Wish I had a copy, but I can't complain - I've got a pretty good auto reference library. Can't have it all!

Unfortunately a lot of these books go that route, the specialty book re-sellers stockpile copies and as soon as they go out of print they jack-up the price.
RancheroSteve Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 The interior is done. I added a fire extinguisher and a couple of gauges to the dash. I also made a spacer to move the pedals down and closer to the floor.
Dogfish_7 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Most excellent! This is too weird. Am getting ready to build the 63 and 64 in a Group Build, starting May 1st. Thanks for sharing with us!
RancheroSteve Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 I like the color Steve - what is it?It's a custom blend at this point. The instruction sheet lists Tamiya XF17 as a choice, so I started with that, but it looked a little too dark so I lightened it up a bit.
Dogfish_7 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I agree Tony. The You Tube video shows it as been a much lighter flat blue. Excellent details!
showrods Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) Out of curiosity, why weren't the Grand Sport versions split windows as were the '63 production coupes? Edited April 23, 2016 by showrods
