Joe Handley Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Thanks! That's also a period correct mod too, since there were a bunch of vans that had been converted to gullwing on their side door, which then became awnings for while camping and going to shows, some even split them at the belt line and made the bottom half drop down or I guess you could hinge it like a large, but normal door too.
stavanzer Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) I remember seeing photos of Vans with the gullwing doors in some of the Custom Magazines back in the day.You are right, it was very period correct to do so. Alan Edited March 30, 2016 by alexis spelling errors
torinobradley Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) That is a cool and interesting find! Good luck with the build. I look forward to seeing this one built as mine didn't get that far...When I was young and not all that talented I was making this one into a IMSA racing van. I hollowed out the rear fenders so the wide back tires would fit up into them and narrowed the front so it would also sit down low. I also swapped the motor out with a blown hemi under a clear dome. What caused me to give in was while trying to fill the side doors, I ended up sanding off the body character line. It was boxed and still sits somewhere in the plastic graveyard.Maybe I'll drag it out and find a donor kit for a transplant. Would still make a wild ride! Edited March 31, 2016 by torinobradley

Also, I think the plastic that Round 2 cast BC in is a bit softer and less brittle, so it might fill and sand better. You should resurrect your Gold Rush and see what you can do with it! It sounds like it would be a darned cool-looking van indeed!
Tom Geiger Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I had a buddy who did the Lambo door thing on his PT Cruiser. You had to duck down to get out of the car, the things were downright hazardous! He said if he wasn't thinking he'd get whacked in the head! We told him he deserved a whack in the head for installing those door kits!
Faust Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 I like the idea of a Lambo door. I'll have to let that roll around in my head for a bit. Lambo doors on a PT Cruiser, though? That's, well... just... yeah. He does deserve that knock on the noggin! I would suggest he might have already taken one to put those on in the first place!
Eshaver Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 In the day , I owned the Art Forms Design company in Houston . My company had design patents on several drink holders and table designs . Dodge vans were a huge chunk of revenue for us .
Faust Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 Absolutely! That Creed is right on the money.Even though I don't have the money, skill or tools to be a 1:1 Vanner, I like to think of myself as a Sprue Vanner. They're too much fun NOT to be one!
