Hammy Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Hello! My name is Brandon. Super new to this hobby. So new that I have never built a model before lol. Hoping to pick up my first one on Thursday. Any help or tips is always welcome.
afx Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Welcome Brandon. This is a great hobby, one that you can enjoy for a lifetime.
CFMgarage Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Hey Brandon! Welcome to the forum. My only suggestion is, start at your own level. Lots of people on here build ridiculously realistic models that they put 4-6 months if not years into...don't do that at first. Build for your enjoyment, try your best at fully embracing just what's in your box, and then over time, start adding aftermarket stuff and extras...learn as you go, and don't overwhelm yourself. And: patience is key. Don't rush it.Good luck, have fun!

Lizard Racing Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 For your first project, I would recommend a snap kit with skill level 1. This will familiarize you with instructions and how a model goes together. If that goes together well, move on to a glue kit with level 1 or 2.I agree with Mr.CFMgarage, build for your own enjoyment. Many of the models displayed on this forum are way beyond my skill level, so don't get discouraged.Welcome to our hobby. I must warn you that it can become compulsive. It's an exercise in patience.
Hammy Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Thanks everyone! I was reading that some people didnt even bother to paint their first models. Just got use to putting them together at first. Seems like a good way to start.
Timok1 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Hammy, start slow- snapkit- no paint. Model your interests. And remember it's your hobby, make it fun and build how you want. No rules . Some nice kits in snap are the big rigs. When you do progress to glue kits use a toothpick to apply the glue. The tube type glue melts the plastic togather and a very little goes a very long way. Search glue bombs here for examples.
Foggy 2 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Welcome Brandon, My advise is to go on the web and find a local model club to you and go have a look see, while working in the US I have been made welcome in several clubs the last one was in Greensboro NC they are a great bunch of people from all walks of life and age groups, it's also a great way of introducing you into the hobby they also have like on this web site a vast knowledge of how to do things to improve your skill level, that will make your model making so much more enjoyable. Also I found that if anyone has any equipment that is no longer required they usually will help you out to get you into our great hobby.I hope you will have as much enjoyment from our hobby as we all do, like the other guys say "make what interests you" catch a couple of auto shows this summer and maybe a model show, make a list of what you need and see what's out there. Rgds, Foggy 2
