j_nigrelli Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) anyone have the url of some model low rider websites? "Livin' the Low Life" (Speed Channel) with Vida Guerra is a pretty good show if you can catch it. she's not that hard on the eyes, either! Edited April 9, 2008 by j_nigrelli
MR BIGGS Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 What makes a car a lowrider? I'm not trying to be a smart ass or nothing. Why i'm asking is because the 56 Chevy I built has never ben kept in the class I enter it in other then the GSL. Its ben moved to other classes, and yes one of them was lowrider is it because i tucked the big rims up under it and the flashy paint job? I have had that same problem with some of my build's. What I have learned is they don't wan't you in that class cause you are competing with one of their buddy's and they wan't them to win. Now back to the lowrider thing, to me a lowrider is any type of car with hydros-lowered , spoke's and 5-20's cause the paint don't really make the car. I think if it don't have those 3 thing's it should be other. I remember when lowrider magazine would not post nor take any pic's of car's that did not have small tire's and spoke's. now they show everything in their magazine. One of my buddy's had a full show zepher and had it in the custom class and they kept on moving it to the lowrider class so we asked they why are they doing that it's a custom( their answer) IT'S LOWERED. so come to find out he had a good buddy in that call and wanted him to win too.
MR BIGGS Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 A lowrider doesn't need spokes to be considered a lowrider. The first time I ever heard anything about them was back around 1973, in an article in Hot Rod magazine, & all of those classic lowriders had narrow Cragar SS rims & WW's. I don't think Daytons were even around then. The first lowrider models, (from Revell in 1979, their 56 & 57 Chevy's, the 57 Nomad & 55 Chevy may have been in the series, I really can't remember now), had the same narrow Cragars & tires as the 1/1 cars in Hot Rod. To me in fact, the "classic" lowriders, (50's Chevys, 63-64 Impalas, early 70's GM rides), really do look better with the narrow Cragars rather than spokes. The GM A Bodies, (I think, anyway, Cutlass, Regal, Monte Carlo of the late 70's-mid 80's), do look better with the spokes to me. You are right Mark. That's one thing I frogot to mention crager's. but they did have to have them small 5-20's and lowered
george 53 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 OK guys If Im the one who started all this B/S cuz of (what I mistakenly thought was consructive)Critisism I do appologize to every one.I Dont remember saying I would smash anyones build I just wanted to emphisise that certain symbols are offensive to some people. As is said before the Hammer and Sickel are symbols of the communist party. Unfortunatly, communism is not dead, but many fine young men are because they served, and gave thier lives to prevent its spread. It IS offensive to some. All I was trying to do was keep politics out of the hobby that has given me so much pleasure over these many years. RJWood Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 BUILD OFF ?........What BUILD OFF? OOPS. Old guy here, I forgot what the topic was. You might want to set up a post with only the rules in it so no one gets confused about the what, when and where tos for this build off. When you say LOWRIDER I dont think of a Cadillac ambulance as a typical Southern Cali lowrider. But that is what you have decided to build. I don't understand that? I have a 59' Chevy Impala about one quarter started, Its been in the need to finish pile for 2 years. Lately its been on my mind, and this might get me going on it again. But I need to finish at least 1 of the 3 in progress. also I work at least 65 - 70 hours a week, this includes the 20+ hours around the house, add the 10 hours a week commuting to my job and back and I'm lucky if I get 2 hours a week to build. I could build it in 2 months. But the months have to be on my schedule, so that means around Thanksgiving I could be finished with this 59' Chevy Impala. anybody see my cane?
VW Dave Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) as for respect i know when i first got here i was a complete A@S but since then ive changed I gotta say it.....that's pure comedy right there. I'm halfway between 'youngster' and 'old fart,' but I won't be participating anyway because I have nothing to prove, and having such a challenge can only serve to deepen the rift you seem to want between the older and younger builders. This is likely the only lowrider model I'll ever build, which is fine with me. Keep this in mind for future reference: For a real challenge, have all who choose to enter build outside of their normal genre. As a builder who pretty much only builds lowriders, and hardly anyone else here does, it seems only fitting that you should 'level the playing field' by reaching outside the comfort zone of all involved.....or you can just stand on a stack of Lowrider back issues and continue hollering "I'm the king of the world" to the one or two who will listen. I'm done with this topic now. Edited April 9, 2008 by VW Dave
Modelmartin Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Ok! Here's my latest idea. I don't need no stinking build-offs. How about we all show up at GSL in '09 and see who earns some hardware! Andy
Chas SCR Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Andy I like that idea, evilone where are you located at and could you make the trip to Salt Lake City in 09? You have just little over a year to build the most wildest car you can and bring it. Let the real Judges pick it.
m408 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 man its not you i was using the commit you put to prove a point its the fact you are all gitting bent over the way someone speaks it was a simple thing all you had to do is leave it be then all this ###### would have never happened AS FOR THE BUILD OFF IS ANYONE IN OR NOT????????????? Kevin, Your use of large fonts in bold is just another way of trying to get attention. "I am importent. Listen to me". It is akin to a child sitting in a corner and screaming. If you really want attention, build something special. Low rider, donk, whatever, just make it good. I'm sure that folks here will appreciate that much more than your ravings.
SnuzBox Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Wow, just wow. I am surprised this thread is still alive! Evil you sure do like to stir it up!.... I come to this forum for modeling advise, thoughts on better building techniques and a way to connect with others of like mind for these small plastic "reality escapes"...not high school drama, so please, can it. This showing makes me second guess my involvement in the Drag Build Off...?
Jantrix Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Pardon me while I butt my big nose in here and suggest a peaceful solution? How about we can the whole notion of the "challenge" and we just call it a "community build project- subject- Lowriders"? No trash talk no competition, no voting just everyone learning from everyone. The custom auto has evolved with leaps and bounds since the first guy with a torch and a wrench figured his Model T would look better without those pesky fenders. What I considered cool at age 17 my Dad hated with a purple passion. Now that I'm near 40, I can see clearer what he hated so much. But you sure couldn't convince me then. As for evilone's IM speak, if he would tone it down a bit for the comfort of the rest of us, I'm sure we'd appreciate it. If he doesn't I'm free to ignore his posts. Seems simple to me. Compromise is the key folks. I'm a father of teenagers and everytime I've put my foot down and dander up on my boys, we got further from any sort of peace. What do you say folks? Shall we meet in the middle and build some in-the-weeds models, and have a good time discussing it or are we gonna continue with the drama? Nuff said.
LDO Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I thought this whole thing was amusing at first. I didn't know that the OP had a habit of making a spectacle of himself. All the trash talking is a big downer. This much attitude over model cars? No thanks. It's all about fun and a way to relax after work. Building "in anger" has no appeal to me.

Chris guthro Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 There you go evilone!! Fessing up to something you did wrong. Everybody would of been all for it if you didnt come on to strong and ignorant. I think this forum does need a freindly Buildoff with no Prizes or anything. Just respect and glory.
Frank Steffens Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 My world famous Shrimp Cocktail Recipe: Five pounds of "Super Colossal" or "Under Eight" Shrimp (basically, big enough that there are only about 7 shrimp per pound.) I recommend Gulf Shrimp, but get what you can. Make a satchel out of cheesecloth and pickling spice, get you water up to a boil and drop the satchel in the water. Add the unpeeled shrimp. They won't shrink as much if they're unpeeled. Boil until they all float. Remove from the water, peel and devein, then wash the cooked shrimp, chill them on a bed of crushed ice in the fridge. Cocktail Sauce: Eight Ounces of Ketchup (not catsup!) Eight Ounces of Gold's Prepared Horseradish 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce Tobasco, or your favorite hot sauce, to taste The juice of one whole lemon. Combine ingredients, chill in the fridge. Serve on a bed of lettuce and crushed ice, with several wedges of lemon. Enjoy! Now, we can all learn to play nice. If not I'll keep posting recipes. OK, to be truthful, I'll probably keep posting recipes anyway. I like hijacking threads, and this one was ripe for it.
