hedotwo Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Looking for suggestions as to how to approach building a 1/25 62' or 63' C50/C60 Chev. I'll admit to not knowing much about what was/is available in either kit form, or resin. Expecting nothing in kit form, I'm sure there would need to be scratchbuilding/kitbashing needed, which I'm ok with. I'm looking to build a car hauler. Thanks
Petetrucker07 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I don't know if this helps or not. But it might give you a starting point.
mikemodeler Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The Modelhaus (which is currently not accepting any orders) has a 64-66 2 ton cab resin kit that will build up into the C50 truck. There are minor differences between the 62/63 and 64-66, mostly grille if I remember correctly. You can also modify a cab from one of the recent Revell 64-66 series pickups into a C50 cab, a quick search on the web will show what is different between a standard pickup cab and a C50, and sourcing a suitable frame will depend on what you are trying to build.
Longbox55 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Bear in mind, there are major differences between the '62 and '63 mechanically. The fames and suspension systems are different from each other, with the '62 using a torsion bar IFS and the '63 having a more traditional parallel leaf I beam setup.https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits/Chevrolet-Trucks/1962-Chevrolet-Truck.pdfhttps://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits/Chevrolet-Trucks/1963-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf

maxwell48098 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 It is not that hard of a conversion to make if you have an old AMT '62 or '63 Chevy pickup cab to start with. Here's one I did,, but as a '62 GMC pumper. I made the fender flares out of Tamiya putty.
hedotwo Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Nice build! Being primarily a car builder, I'm not really up on what was or wasn't available in kit form as far as Chevy pickups to use a starting point for a 63' c50 or 60. I have seen where Revell 65' kits are available and it does look at first glance that cab might work with mods to the grille/headlights. Are the 63' pickup kits pretty expensive when found? Have they been re-released?
Fat Brian Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Your best bet is to start with either of the Revell 64 or 65 kits, they're plentiful and cheap if you mess it up and the hood was the same from 63 to 66. Even the AMT 60 will work but the hood is different.
leafsprings Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) The Modelhaus (which is currently not accepting any orders) has a 64-66 2 ton cab resin kit that will build up into the C50 truck.I agree, that great resin kit would be the one to find. You would also need to locate an older '62 amt pickup kit for the cab ( which has the wrap around front windshield). The '62 pickup grill is very similar to the '62-'63 larger truck grill. One more interesting note, the '63 C50-C60 used the narrow front fenders, like the Modelhause '64-'66 C50-C60, but the '60-'62 C50-C60 used the slightly wider front fenders.
