Roadrunner Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 it looked ok at first, great color but it began to react with the primer and became blotchy. Also, it ended up looking grainy which I turned out to be in the paint itself. Looked like dust nibs.Yea, I've had Humbrol go bad before, looked like sand in the paint. Your car looks nice now though, real nice.
Eric Macleod Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 As always, you are doing a fantastic job with this. Are you thinking of doing anything to upgrade the old AMT wheels? Keep us posted. Eric
landman Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 Yea, I've had Humbrol go bad before, looked like sand in the paint. Your car looks nice now though, real nice. We can hadly blame the paint. It was likely over 40 years old.
mustang1989 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Lookin' good so far Pat. Great ideas goin' here and I do like that paint finish. It's a really good feeling to take a kit that we have built years ago and watch it all transform into something like this.
landman Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys. it's all about having fun, isn't it? Gave it a pinstripe. Thinned out the windshield frame. The headlights were glue crazed. Painted the backs silver and the fronts with floor polish. I may strip them and foil them instead. Stripped and foiled the hubcaps. Touched up the dash & gave it some Slixx decals. Edited December 26, 2020 by landman
dino246gt Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Looking real good so far, nice work on the top pieces!
Roadrunner Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 We can hadly blame the paint. It was likely over 40 years old. Well if it's a choice between myself or the paint, I'll always blame the paint.
landman Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 Well if it's a choice between myself or the paint, I'll always blame the paint. Maybe I should start doing that too.
GTJUNIOR Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Great work so far, Pat. Looking forward to seeing it done.
landman Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) I hope you guys will forgive me but this afternoon, instead of working on the '32 Ford, I worked on the '67 Ford. Edited December 26, 2020 by landman
Roadrunner Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I like that old tool box. My father had one very similar to it.

That old toolbox is actually new made with old wood. I loosely copied a Gerstner chest using old mahogany door frames which I had salvaged from my daughter's hairstyling shop when I renovated it. But it is a replica of the classic "hobby" box by Gerstner. I am happy that you thought it was old, that would mean I was successful in my recreation. Here are some better photos. Roadrunner Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Very nice, very nice indeed. Yep, I mistook it for an old one.
landman Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Very nice, very nice indeed. Yep, I mistook it for an old one.Well, thank you, Sir!
landman Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Body is on the frame. Cut & foiled some small half-round to make the ends of the second roof bow.Trial fitted the roof. Made a pattern for the windshield.
Eric Macleod Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Looks excellent. I am impressed with the model, the '67 'Stang and the tool box. Lots of good stuff you have.
slusher Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Pat, i really like the color and pin strip. Your Mustang is sweet...
Lovefordgalaxie Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 it's great to see a stock '32 Ford. Nice color, and added detail on the top. Cutting the yellow pinstripping on the door shut lines will make it to look very realistic.
landman Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Attempted to do what Tulio suggests above but the tape wants to come off, so I dabbed a bit of black at each shutline. Installed the glass. Lost two door handles. I'll attempt to make some. I know they make door handles for cars of the fifties but what about these old girls? I will use the '32 plate from my own collection.
Roadrunner Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 There a Rockler store not too far from my house. It's my "go to" location for hunting down hardwoods.
landman Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) Consider it done. Not much difference from the starting point. Thanks for looking, commenting and the pointers. Edited December 26, 2020 by landman
wayne swayze Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Looks good Pat! I like how you leaned the windshield back to match the wooden roof support at the back. Will you be adding rear door handles? The license plates are very cool!

The license plates are very cool! That was unintentional. Thanks for pointing it out. I will look for door handles, my other '32 has lost his too. If I can't find any I my try making some.
